Default Del Sol Gauge Cluster Mod

Hi all,

I decided to remove the clock from the gauge cluster and replace it with a gauge. Since I do not yet have an engine or any "important" gauges, I used a volt gauge.

Along with that I also replaced some of the standard bulbs with hyper white LED. It should look awesome once it is wired up and installed.

Here are some pics of the clock removal, gauge install...

Oh cool, I'll check them out. I'm in the process of Using SEM paint and redoing the entire interior. New carpet too, so they would add a nice finishing touch.

Thanks guys. It's an epoxy used to hold the gauge in place. It was a little too small for the stock cut-out. So I used a piece of sheet metal, and made a trim ring for it to hold it in place.

thats actually a pretty damn good idea for an air/fuel gauge. might consider that when i finish running the turbo. either there or the far left a/c vent

Thanks guys, it was a pretty simple mod. The back looks stock, no need to mod anything. The space is deep enough to fit the gauge.

Personally, to avoid possibly damaging the face of the cluster, I would have threaded a bolt through the back of the gauge or figured some other kind of retention system. However, I envy the Del Sol cluster now, that is absolutely the best place to put a gauge.

For my boost and A/F gauges, I made a pod out of fiberglass to replace my middle vent on my Civic. I just cut the louvers out and glued in a couple plastic pods, then laid fiberglass over, then bondo to smooth it, and painted it. Works for me, just an idea if anyone else doesn't want a pillar pod.

@notajdmfan, that's sounds really cool. I'm not that talented to do a fiberglass install, I was shocked I pulled this off.

JC_1118: It's not too bad, the mistake people seem to make is using too much hardener and it setting too fast. Other than the smell and it being really hard to get off your hands, it's like paper mache. Nasty, really sticky, toxic, but same idea, especially if you get the cloth and not the mat. The cloth is way easier to work with. Get it pretty close, keeping things kinda smooth, and then just a thin coat of bondo will get it the rest of the way.

To get the shape I wanted, I just shaped the wet glass before it dried and waited to do another coat until it was set, and then just built it up until it was strong. I messed up a little and just cut it with a 3" cutoff wheel. A Dremel or hacksaw would work too, as does a file to shaping it. Then just resin alone over that smooths it back out so the hairs don't stick out.

Theres really nothing to be intimidated about. It's a very small project.
