Default del sol engine swap trouble

swapped a d16z6 in a 95 del sol and i couldnt get car to run right i re did my timing belt and the car sounds fine and runs alright but it doesnt have the power it should. If the timing belt is off just a little how does it run??? It had no top end what soever but if you are running under 4000 rpm it runs fine but try to go past that and it just dont really go it doesnt sputter or nothing just aint got no power. I was messing with throttle cable could this have anyting to do with it, or the distributor maybe need moved around all plugs and wires are new. Maybe timing belt still aint rite??

yeah its always had a d16z6 in it oil pump went out and i rebuilt the engine it has a p28 in it and i have the oil sendin unit hooked up but vtec isnt engaging because i cant get it to hit 4500 rpm it will in 1st and 2nd gear but after that it wont go past 4000 rpm it doesnt sputter or anything it just dont accelerate past that

Your ignition timing is off, grab a timing light. Even if your distributor looks properly put on, even a little too much one way can cause this.

im mean if have a haynes manual and u followed the instruction to set timing u should be good... if u have a 2 extra people have one hold the cam still, one hold the crank still and u put the timing belt on u can go wrong that way... if it off 1 tooth it wont run like u said it runs my friends was off 1 tooth for the longest time on his LS always had the same power
