Del SOl cooling issue!!
long story short...
my project car, 93 del sol sohc with all the trimmings is over heating!
The iac valve, thermostat, rad hoses, coolant have all been replaced within the year and show no signs of wear or fault (excl. coolant), the radiator is a bit dirty but the engine will be replaced soon enough and I don't plan on wasting more money in the sohc realm.
I noticed the radiator was half full after it exploded in a poisonous vapor cloud of coolant and sludge.
I picked out the melted spoon radiator cap the spring and retainer that fell apart thanks alot spoon
I topped off the radiator, replaced with a stock 1.1bar cap and took the beast on a spirited drive.
It drove perfectly for about 15min, toward the end of my drive right as I arrived at my house the temp gauge hit the H almost immediatley. I was glancing at the temp the whole drive.
Then after taking a sharp turn and quick accel up a hill the gauge was back in the middle and there were no signs of vaporizing coolant or leakage until I got out.
I noticed a little hole where the spill-tank hose meets the top of the spill tank... is this enough of a problem to cause the car to overheat by allowing air to enter by this line?
To top it all off my clean bay is all covered in corrosive gue from the faulty rad cap and 2 vapor explosions in 2 days.
Please suggest the proper method for fixing, I'm all ears

Flush the cooling system, and change that hose with the hole in it, if you still have problems I would replace everything... thermostat and all, pretty cheap really

Re: Del SOl cooling issue!! (hondaman1320)
I found the real issue.
The top of the radiator bung is damaged, I tore apart the remnants of the spoon cap and used it as a condom to help seal the measly 1.1 bars in place.
I refilled with ethylene glycol and bottled water, a few caps of water+water wetter in the spill tank and the issue has been resolved for a few days now.
+the engine now runs cooler even when its 120f outside. I'm pleased with the results
and for those wondering, the fan relay is good.. back in the day I made a manual fan switch for inside the car, you just have to be vigilant looking at the temp.
