del sol B16A engine swap.... advice...
I have a 93 del sol s, with a not up to par d series engine, and i want to drop in a b16 b/c i am on a budget, but i dunno wether to go with the b16a1 or the b16a2, i heard that the b16a1 is cheaper but ive found a 2 for 1650 and the cheapest 1 is 1100, sooo i am wondering if i should just take the 10 more horse the 2 puts out and not have to change the injectors, distributor, and wiring harness to obd1 status. or if anyone knows where to find sheap parts to convert a b16a1???? P.S. since the b16a2 has a higher compression i heard it has a stronger bottom end, and since im planning a turbo, i thought a beefier bottom would help.... i need advice cause i dun wanna screw it up and im on a budget... sooo however minutely subtle the advice is... i really need some...... thanx!!!!

Higher compression does not mean it has a stronger bottom end. The rods and crank are still the same. The pistons have a slightly higher dome, bumping compression up from 10.2:1 in the US version to 10.4:1. If anything, the higher compression would be LESS desirable for boosting.

The A1 is most likely a cable tranny, so you'll have to but some conversion parts for it, go with the A2.
The swap stuff you need can be found at a dealer, get stuff from a 94+ VTEC del sol. It may not be as cheap as some of the swap companies, but it will absolutely work on that car, no problems with fitment or reliability.. All your radiator hoses, etc., should be bought new from a dealer, and you're lucky that there was a B16 del sol from the factory, swaps are easy!

If you can, try and find a B16A3. That was the engine in the '94-'95 Sol VTEC, they're OBD-I, and use a hydro tranny.
With a JDM B16A, if you get a '92-'95, you'll get the engine that came in the Civic SiR-II. Basically the same stuff as a B16A3.
The cheap JDM B16As are '88-'91 engines. You have enough money to afford a newer engine, so I wouldn't even consider this option.
Have you thought about just buying a B20Z with an LS tranny and turbocharging that?
Or, since you do have $4500, why not a B18C1? If you're considering a B16, then think about a B18C. 1.8L = good.

Re: del sol B16A engine swap.... advice... (delsolguy)
yea i originally was thinking a b18c, but they were on the expensive side, and i want to turbocharge with the money i got, so i kinda figured the b16 becuase its gonna be easy b/c they made a sol with one in it, and it is very cost effective, cause im only 2 months from 18 with a 7 dollar an hour job. but i never really thought about the b20, does neone know how much one runs for????
