rust i'm guessing.
not sure what to tell you besides get out a buffer and go to town. maybe hit it with some CLR? if i knew a little more chemistry lol
ps: nice job spraying water all over your dizzy. next time i've recommend covering it with a plastic bag.

Next time instead of bein lazy tryna spray on spray off, whoop out the simple green and use planty of rags and some steel wool for the tuff stains on the valve cover. Toothbrush is good for detailing as well. That way u wont get **** wet and it looks 10x better wen u spend some time at it.

What brand did you use?
A few things you should wet the engine down a little first, make sure it is cool, then use the degreaser then rinse, cover the dizzy alt, fuse box.

If you're talking about the white stuff on the valve cover and IM, etc., it's because it's unpainted aluminum. Just get a scrub brush and clean it up with baking soda.

Yes it's a good precaution to take, is it completely necessary? Not at all. As long as you aren't a mad men with the hose/pressure washer you'll be fine..

When I was a tike,
This happened to me as well trying to degrease the motor with the degreaser we have at our self serve car washs out here,
Ive seen it so I know there is chauncy **** out there that does this.
But this expecially happens when the motor is hot and the degreaser gets cooked on before you have a chance to even wash it off.
Deal with the weird smell of simple green like EJ1ryder stated!

First, you never need anything more than Simple green full strength. Then use a light dressing to make it all nice. Trick is to do it to a warm engine, then spray dressing. close hood and let dry. Here are a few I've done to my car, and my previous cars, fathers car.

^^^^^ furious94ls the dressing is a really nice touch. Also it keeps the hoses well conditioned and moist. Lol spectre intake ftw lmao, it makes the op's aem look like s**t, and for a third of the price lol. Op: see what a difference it makes when something is properly installed?

Simple Green is awesome stuff. I used it at a donut shop I used to work at to clean the floors and all kinds of stuff. It really cuts the grease, and it's non-toxic. Dawn dish soap also works great, I used it to clean a valve cover a while back.
For the rust and stuff, just spray it down with some wd40. It's one of the few things it does well. For the oxidized looking aluminum, I guess just deal with it or sand it down.
