I have a dd. but I got this to build and put in my project civic. Its hard to find a b series in my area. And I'm not on the wealthy side of the financial line. Idk what to do now. Lol

How about you just post the videos so that we can see them, instead of using H-T to friendwhore. The only way you're beating a LS-V, or a B20V, with a B7, is if either their cars are running on 3 cylinders, they forgot how to shift, or they're helping you feel good about yourself.

I am putting a JRSC on my B7 for fun. Been reading about the camshaft stuff, I might look into that down the road.

To the OP (who has probably moved on with his life by now) if you're writing an idiot's guide don't put big words like "compendium" in the post.

One absolutely free performance mod I'd like to mention (for stock auto transmission) is to tighten the kickdown cable a half turn so the trans holds its gear a few extra seconds before shifting. This will throw your shift points up a few hundred RPM and keep you more in the usable powerband. Not too much though or it will shift harshly when your spinning crank hits that tall gearing.

I'd like to say the b7 is kinda underrated. It's not good for much besides gas mileage before it's worked on but if done right you can up the power a decent amount and keep the good fuel economy (which I enjoy very much).
I'd say start with the cam. Regrind it or put in an a6 cam. Adjust the valve lash the best you can. Maybe resurface the valves and seats as well if needed.
Do what it takes to raise the compression, resurfacing the head and/or getting a different HG. Hone out the cylinders and replace the rings.
Then do all the maintenance it needs. (New gaskets, wires, plugs etc.)
Then tune it the best you can. As you probably already know timing is very important in these.
After that as everyone has said, get an ex/si tranny.
Then go on to do the i/h/e. Maybe add new, bigger injectors.
And if that's not enough for you then turbo it. But that itself will be a big investment and will take more than just the turbo itself to make it last.

Except for the last thing you mentioned, turbo, all of it is an extreme waste of time and money. Dynos don't lie.

Well doing all the stuff I listed would be a waste but just throwing in a couple things of what I first mentioned wouldn't be so bad. I've only been learning and working on hondas for half a year so I don't have the experience to really say. That's just what I think lol. Still got plenty to learn

Then what you're saying makes no sense. These things are a waste but you should do them anyway because they aren't so bad?
Your whole statement is contradictory and if that's what you think you should think about rethinking it. This is an old post with outdated and incomplete information. Unlike this one.

Re: The Definitive Idiot's Guide to Tuning the D15B7 (performance mods)
I was just trying to give my idea of what to do to a d15 to build it. I know it's a waste compared to building other engines but if you really want to build a d15 there's what I think would be good to do. My only contradicting statement that I can see was that I said the d15 is kinda underrated. Which it really isn't lol. This is a lot of thinking..

It is what you think versus dyno charts in marcs signature. I will take the real evidence that all that stuff you listed aside from turbo is a waste of time/money.

Re: The Definitive Idiot's Guide to Tuning the D15B7 (performance mods)
And after you do all this "stuff" to it what kind of improvements/gains are you talking about? Answer: none worth mentioning. I repeat; building a naturally aspirated D-series engine, ESPECIALLY D15s is an utter waste of time and an exercise in futility. Performance and D-series is an oxymoron.
Maybe it has all been proven before but the op brought up the subject and I just gave my advice as worthless as it is. As I just said before, I agree with you they are a waste, I never said it wasn't. I was mostly just thinking if someone put an ex tranny and a new cam with a tune it wouldn't be the biggest waste of money, still not really worth it but you'd see some small gains. A lot better than just I/H/E. I don't care I'll admit I'm just speaking from what I've learned, not necessarily all dyno facts. Some people just insist on keeping the d series and doing whatever they can to it. Would it be better if I just said throw away the d15 and go h2b or f/i b18 ?

Re: The Definitive Idiot's Guide to Tuning the D15B7 (performance mods)
So I used to have an Ek with a automatic D16y8, but I wrecked the car still have the engine. Tryna find another shell and converting to 5-speed. As for now I have a 93 EG and of course the engine is a d15b7 5-speed,I recently replaced the head gasket with the Honda 3 layer and had the head resurfaced, polished, valve adjusted etc. Now it's my understanding that my automatic y8 is faster than my manual b7?? Is this true?? And if so would I gain more power if I took the y8 and drop it onto my b7 transmission? Or should I just swap the head and wire up VTEC??
