Hey,

I bought a set of power folding mirrors, these are for a right hand car and I myself have a left hand car. in picture 12 shows you that the angle is different. but my car a udsm civic coupe EJ1 94 ex is also the part where the metal plate is in a different shape and the holes for the bolts do not match. I wondered whose car did you get the part of picture 12?
i need to make this possible because otherwise I'll never get good at it.
i hope you can help.
I myself live in Netherlands and find other items on the scrapping..

greetings -civic010coupe-

^^ You need to swap the internals into a LHD manual mirror, not power. I state this in the DIY.

Pream
  • Squirt some oil around the pivot point for the folding mirrors. If they do not fold smoothly, it will sound like they are on an endless loop and you'll think they are broken.

I wish I would have re-read this DIY last week. I was having the endless loop issue with my PFM, so I tore them apart down to the removal of the belt that is responsible for folding. I originally thought that the belt might have been stretched because my mirrors also had about 1" of play at rest, but that didn't seem to be the case. The only issues that I found were corroded ball bearings and 25 years of gunk. I cleaned everything up, re-greased the mechanisms, and put it all back together. And BAM - everything worked well again with no play. I could have saved so much time by spraying some white lithium grease in there... :/

@deschlong ive bought myself a folding mirror set and wired it up as you’ve said. Folding aspect of the mirrors work but now the mirror up, down, left, right function doesn’t work?
Car original had powered mirrors so I just added two wires for folding function to relay and relay to power then just added the 1 wire into the switch and ground. Is there anything that I missed ?

^^ Do the mirrors work with the old non-folding switch? What troubleshooting have you done?

it was working prior to me adding the wires but now both aren’t working. Will have to trouble shoot more. I’m puzzled as I haven’t touched the standard loom and just added extra for folding function .

I would just like to start by saying thank you for this detailed write up. I just bought a 92 Dx hatch and plan on updating the entire interior to power everything. This has been by far the clearest most in depth I've seen.
has anyone seen any parts of this tread used on YouTube yet? I've searched youtube for detailed how to's on this subject and most are not very well detailed.

Are USDM power mirrors ready for heating elements or only the folding mirrors?

Great Q. Yes, heating elements can be added to standard power mirrors. To run them you have three options: 1. Acquire the OEM switch that is power, non-folding, but with the heater button; 2. Acquire the mirror switch heat button retrofit kit from @HiTec ; or, 3. Wire in to your existing rear defroster.

You'll still need to go through the fuss of adding all the wiring and pads etc but yeah no need for the mostly useless feature of the folding.

My specific concern is do USDM power mirrors have the dots that contact the heater's prongs or do those only exist on the PFM? Also, what relay would I use for the heaters? Is it JDM or can it be found by the under-hood fuse box?

"Dots"?

Relay is super common. Horn, A/C, fuse box, etc. All over. Other Hondas and Acuras. My DIY has a build for a DIY of the harness.

I don't know definitively but would be easy enough for you to take a peek. If not for some reason then it's easy enough to make your own holes in the mirror's plastic backing.

Do you @deschlong have any update on how to add "Mirror" text to OEM button bezel/icon on the mirror defroster button itself, have you had time to do some research on it? My offer is still on the table, with just shipping costs ($5,80), i can send you the retrofit set for you to test if you want.

@HiTec , my initial investigations led me to a CriCut + a white paintpen. I have not tested; theoretical only!
