D16y8 Sealing up the intake manifold. Sucking Air HELP!!!
I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX with D16y8 Motor. I've tried sealing up this intake manifold 3 times now and its still sucking air at the flange.
1st attempt: I used a gasket I had laying around which was new.
2nd attempt: I bought a Fel-Pro gasket from Autozone
3rd attempt: I re-used the Fel-Pro gasket and loaded it up 3M General purpose Sealer. (thought for sure this would take care of it)
I used the torque sequence my book provided. Start from the center and go out. And lets be realistic you are NOT getting a torque wrench in there to torque them to 16 FT LBS which I am sure I am right around when tightening with my 12mm wrench. In between the 2nd and 3rd attempt I used my metal straight edge ruler to see if maybe the flange was warped and it was straight.
Anyone have any thoughts on this before I punch it in the head!

I don't know what to tell you other than you must pinpoint exactly where the leak is then inspect the head + intake surface.
I cannot think of any reason the intake wouldn't seal the first time with only a gasket.
No-one uses sealant on their intake to head gasket on these cars.

Explain exactly where the source of the leak is, and how you managed to find it. Also, what problems are you experiencing as a result of this leak?

Hate to say it, but a intake manifold is not really that difficult to remove or install, and the bolt are so small they can be hand tightened no need for torque... With all that said leaks are simple... Whats the problem....?

lol but seriously where is the leak coming from. if its a big leak from the top you might be using the wrong gasket. some d16y8 had the air holes in the injectors and weird intake manifold design that used a bigger gasket. make sure to get the correct gasket for that exact year motor

The leaks are at the top of the flange around injector #1 and #4 right where the (2) nuts are. Since adding the sealant #4 side has stopped leaking. And I know, nobody uses sealant on these but I was at my wits end with this thing.
I’m finding the leak with using starting fluid and letting my 3k+ idle drop. I’m spraying the direct spot that it’s leaking at not the entire bay if someone asks that.
The two gaskets I used were the same as the old gasket and yes I removed all of the old OEM Honda gasket.
Tony 2018- I’m only mentioning torqueing them b/c some people are huge torque ******.

Either
A, you have the wrong gasket ( or just not telling us what kind of gasket you bought)
B, You didn't clean up the old gasket that was left
C, You didn't tighten it down. ( suggest you check this last before you decide to go ape on that nut and strip it)

and my bet is he has the wrong gasket because the gasket with no air injection on a car with air injection like the 00 d16y8 will leak air exactly where he is saying right at the top
