Default [FAQ] How-To: Change your Civic Manual Transmission Fluid

Re: Default [FAQ] How-To: Change your Civic Manual Transmission Fluid
I was changing the transmission fluid yesterday in my B18C type R and filling from the filler hole with a tube that fit very snuggly. For some reason after pouring 2.5 quarts in, no fluid was leaking when I removed the tube. Anyone know what this means?
By the way, the drain bolt washer is the same as the oil pan drain washer, but the filler bolt washer is bigger and a few cents more expensive (part number 94109-20000).

changed the transmission fluid today ~ first time ever
Thanks much for this writeup.
I got the manual transmission fluid from honda, and a breaker bar from ebay that worked great. The change went very smoothly thanks to these instructions and the breaker bar. The foot of 5/8" hose I got was just right for my medium sized engine oil funnel, but was too big for the fill hole. I cut a 3" slit at the top of the hose where it was touching the fill hole, the sides overlapped and the hose went right in. Probably a 1/2" hose would be better, and a very small funnel. Take the funnel along when getting the hose.
I used the entire 2 quarts to fill up and it all went into the hole, then dribbled out for 10 minutes after the hose was removed. The $3 crusher washers from honda were flimsy, so I used the old ones from before. I put a catch tray on top of my drain bucket and was happy to see that the old fluid was quite dirty, very dirty indeed, proving this change was well worth doing. I'd like to change the fluid again in another 6 months. I'm curious if anyone has noticed better gas mileage or decreased rolling resistance after changing the fluid.
Thanks again for the writeup.

The pictures have been re-posted. I'm glad this tutorial has helped so many. As everyone knows, proper maintenance is the key to having a reliable car. Treat it right and it will treat you right (most of the time...). Almost 9 years since this post was originally made and the Civic is still going strong!

Is there a common standard for warming up the trans before the change? Engine hot, warm, cold, doesn't matter?
Great write up, by the way. Been going strong for years! Well done.
