dumb question. how much would it alter it if you had the whole front end up on jackstands when you did this? reason i'm asking, most people's car is lowered, and hard to crawl underneath without it being jacked up. would the front on jackstands affect drainage or keep it from holding the full amount when you go to fill it back up?

well on the transmission the drain is at the front part so jacking the front up wouldnt let all of the fluid drain out. also the same wth the fill plug except its to the rear of the transmission. filling it up till it started to drain out would seem like its full but since its tilted, filling it till it drained out wouldnt give u the right measurement.
maybe to make it level, put the wole car on stands? it would b a pain tho. im sure u could 'get by' by just jacking the front end up just enough but, its supposed to b level

A way around that problem of being lowered is to jack up the car, get underneath, get out the bolts, lower the car back down from the jack, then fill up the tranny via the speed sensor in the engine bay

Great write up. One question though. Is it bad to change the fluid if it hasn't been changed in say 60K miles or possible more. Im not sure if it has ever been change in my 93 EX which now has 144k on her. I have the fluid sitting at home I just need the long tube to refill it.
So would it hurt the tranny if i changed the fluid now? Or would it get rid of the trouble going into reverse problem?

r u asking if its bad to change the fluid if its never been changed? As far as i know, changing it doesnt hurt anything, it just makes it better since its fresh fluid. i have the reverse problem also but what i do whenever i put it in reverse, i put a little pressure on the shifter untill the car moves so i know its in gear. most of the time the car goes into gear, i just od that incase it doesnt go in all the way. wen the car(or transmission inside) moves/turns a little, it will click into gear.

I usually put her in 2nd and then back to reverse this usually works out pretty well.
I just changed the fluid it took like 15min to do.
Almost took longer to clean up hehe.

i was about to do a writeup on how to change the radiator fluid from the radiator and from the block to do a full system flush but i did that when i did my timing belt...damn i should have done a writeup how to do a timing belt. oh well i might do that next weekend when i have sometime. it doenst take me very long at all to do a timing belt at all anymore, maybe an hour or so at most, so i could do a timing belt writeup so that will save a lot of people money

ok so i wanna do this 2 my car so i ran to the autozone and after talkin 2 the guy there he said 80W90 gear oil and i got the M14 aluminum washers.. sound about right?
