Depends on how much you want to spend. That is a lot of money difference but if you don't care about money, I say got with the B18C1 JDM

well, with toda spec bs, your gonna need tuning and lots of other parts such as valve springs and so on if you want to raise the rev higher. you cant just slap it on a expect to make lots of power. plus idles gonna be a lil funky . id say get the b18c. im gettin mine this week.
by the way, ive been trying to decide just like you (b16 or b18) for a long time...my opinion is do it right the first time (i have nothing against going a b16 but i 160hp vs 170hp seems appealing to me and b18c have better potentials than b16s.)
these are just my opinions so feel free to say anything

Here it is, you want the launch, you want the 1/4 mile? You want TORQUE, that is what will help you get going, not horsepower. The horsepower doesn't kick in until RPM's get high, everything from the stop light to stop light, to the 60 foot times are dependent upon Torque. Horsepower is easy to make, torque is the hard thing to find...."the torque was awesome" qutoe from Lisa Kubo after her record breaking run with her new H22. The bigger the better, bonus is that the Type R tranny will bolt right onto the B18. I am going to be doing a swap too and am considering putting a B20 in my civic but am still researching. To make it short, go with the B18.

I ditto the b18. You're looking at an engine with more aftermarket support (and older more proven parts), more power, and only a negligible weight increase. The only disadvantage is $ but if you're doing cams on the B16, there goes your price advantage (especially, as said before, once you factor in tuning and all the other parts you'll want to take full advantage of the cams). Whether we Honda heads like to admit it or not, there really is no replacement for displacement, all other things being equal.

The difference in handling will be so minute that you won't even feel it because you'll be paying attention to the power . Now if you go up to something like an H22, then you might have problems, not just weight, but also where the engine sits. But with the B18 series, you'll be just fine!

Go with the B18c jdm 98 spec R . about 210 hp to the cranck stock ,and if you decide to want more hp slap in some cams and cam gears and dyno tune .
