Decent low cost headers

96 Civic EX

Besides ebay ones.

I noticed some headers from $170 to $200, like DNX, Hedman's and Pacesetters.

Anyone have a recommendation for a low cost header, and how is the performance?

Might as well go Ebay. Unless you can afford higher dollar items it really won't make a difference. Even spending a ton of money on this item is a waste.

before you buy a header, make sure you aren't planning on going turbo in the future, cause its a waste to buy it if you are.

d16y8 headers are pretty damn good for factory. i wouldnt waste money on a header unless your going big all motor with it. the size of the header is something that is actually ENGINEERED for that engine. unless you are flowing A LOT air no reason to go bigger. Same design as a egay header too, just a lil smaller piping. If you wanna free up some HP, Id recommend getting rid of Cat and get an un-chambered muffler.

What's the gain over stoock using an after market header just curious how worth it, it is to buy like dc sport header

Next to none. Check the dynos posted in the link of section 4 of the FAQs.

Often they just shift power instead of making more.

Re: Decent low cost headers

i didnt notice much more power gain just power at different rpm ranges

Honestly just in case my manifold is shot, I wanted an option.

Do headers make the car louder? I have a cat back system and it is a little loud now.

Re: Decent low cost headers

I think headers give the car a better sound, its not as dramatic a difference as in a V8 but I think it is still worth it to buy headers. Honda parts are easy to come by used, check the classifieds here and check on craigslist and Im sure you'll find a name brand header for a good price

Re: Decent low cost headers

Worth it for the sound? Who puts on a header for the sound? It's supposed to be a performance item not a "look at me" item.

Re: Decent low cost headers

lol I meant it has a nice sound and headers are worth buying as two seperate points, I know its a performance item it was just already stated

Re: Decent low cost headers

A header on a D-series is a waste of money. I had a set on my D that were made by Edlebrock and CARB approved. Made absolutely NO power but it made my car a LOT louder coupled with their exhaust. It only succeeded in shiftting it somewhere else in the powerband. Dollar for dollar the worst investment in gaining power you could ever make. Even with an IHE combo you net ONLY 12 horsepower. Maybe.

dc headers are alright, and cheap....

Other posted said DC are not that cheap the ceramic ones rust (about 320), the Stainless are better but are over 400 bucks.

Re: Decent low cost headers

Maybe if you get them used. I've never seen these cheap when new. Even back in the good old rice days.

Re: Decent low cost headers

yeah they do. i've seen them for 350, i thought that was fairly cheap compared to the other better ones...

grumblemarc 09-24-2011 04:42 PM

Re: Decent low cost headers

Waste. Especially on a stock motor. $350 to still go slow sounds absolutely asinine to me.

oh sht its a D series?? ya dont waste your money on a header buy a OEM one, dont want to be giving hondas a bad name with your loud ass ricer sound.. btw Ive got a DC 4-1 no rust, no cracks and ive smacked it on speed bumps a hundred times so pretty durable!
