Default decent hp for $300?

i was looking at a Venom Engine Control Module. It says it gains 25% hp in the 1-5000rpm range. they are $300. Anyone know anything about stuff like this? worth it?

For 300 bucks, slap a VTEC head and ECU on your LX, that would probably be more worthwhile. Or an EX tranny.

Stay away from Venom!!!! All that things does is mess with your gas mileage. Waste of money, waste of time. Although some people actually have told me good stories about their experiences with it, I can only tell you what I've heard, most of which is that Venom is a piece of ****.

when you start off with 105hp or so, 25 is a lot

the simplest way to put is this: a black box, with two wires IS NOT going to increase hp by 25%. It's a gimmick not a hp savior.

You don't need a chip yet, and do NOT get a Venom Module. Get a good header or work on suspension.

HP for 300....well you have an LX so I would say EX tranny.

Get some better gears first.

for $300 i would just get something simple like a CAI, or spend like maybe another $200 and get a decent exhaust setup.

You should get one when you have a turbo or a fully built engine.

Well the z6 is rated at 125 hp...so somewhere in that range (plus whatever you gained with the CAI and exhaust). Shouldnt be more than about 250-300 for the head and ECU.

Plus you get VTEC y0!

All the kids have it these days.

Don't forget the tranny as another option, like Spade said as well. If you are really really lucky, you might even be able to find the head ECU and tranny for 300 bucks...maybe.

Actually, any sohc VTEC head from 92-00 can work. But for simplicity sake a z6 (92-95 EX/Si head) would be easier since it is OBD I, same as your car. A d16y8 (96-00 EX head) would work too, but it is an OBD II so I believe there are some wiring changes that must be made, someone else can fill in the details much better than I could.
