dc sports header cracked!

as topic states, my dc sports ceramic header has a tiny hair line crack in it and i know its cracked because there is a fine black ( carbon ) line right behind the weld on the far right pipe, im wondering if i can just take this to a local shop to get tack welded to prevent further cracking?

and why did this header crack i was assuming dc sports was one of the best out there? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

anything that heats up and cools down as much as exhaust manifolds are bound to have cracks.. just get it welded up.. should be better than using jbweld

I had to weld one up for a customer before. Before you do anything you need to grind off all the cermanic from it. Then you could maybe even put JB weld on it but i would get it welded.

Re: (Luserkid)

i tried jb weld a few times and it just gets so hot it cracks and the carbon leaks right threw.. does it matter whether its a steel or alluminum weld?

i heard of more ceramic headers cracking than the stainless steel. could it be something with the ceramic coating???

Re: (built562)

Before you put JB weld on it did you grind it down to the steel? If you didnt thats why the JB weld isnt holding. Also you have to get JB weld that can handle heat and let it sit for a whole day minimum.

Re: (Luserkid)

yeah i dont no though, if i get it re welded i dont have to piss around and wait on jb weld to dry, then hope it dont crack in the future, compared to a weld that is gonna be solid.. im just kinda really pissed off that dc sports let me down https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

Re: dc sports header cracked! (jayare05)

I had the first version of DC Header for my D15 for 4 years in 1995 and it developed a crack where the first two tube comes together.

I just drove it like that for another 3 years until I got my swap and I have installed a used Comptech Header. So I took of the DC Header and had it welded then sold it on Ebay at a pretty good price.

Fom my experience, Ceramic tends to crack more than SS.

I've never owned any DC stuff, but seriously 75% of the time when a DC header is mentioned its because it has cracked. I've even heard of ppl breaking their DC shifters (2 or 3). I've never heard anything good about DC. People talk about them like its good stuff, but all I hear is bad http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

Exactly right. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
All headers have the ability to crack. Some hold up great for some people, while the same brand might crack for another person. It happens. Don't JB weld it, take it off, go to a muffler shop, and pay them 10bux to weld it correctly.
