Dash swap= HVAC controls don't work. Only get air out of face vents. Help.
The buttons don't work on the climate control. The air heats up when I move the slider, and the fan works. When I try to change where the air comes out, it stays at me face. I get no air on my feet or as a defogger. I checked all electrical connections, but I didn't find anything. The car is a 92 civic cx and I swapped the stock grey dash for a black one. I put the grey dash into another civic, a 95 cx, and now that car has the same problem. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Thanks.

maybe the cable in the back of the climate control is not hooked on properly

all the cables are hooked up. I can switch between heat and cold, but I can't change which vents the air comes out of. It worked right before the dash swap.

sounds like you forgot a vacuum hose connection somewhere or cracked/tore one of the vacuum hoses...
all the buttons/sliders do is act like valves for the various vacuum lines which hook to the vacuum pots on the a/c doors in the housing behind the dash. They are all connected at a few points so one hole in one or one disconnected one and they'll all cease to function as there will be no vacuum signal in the system. And no, the engine won't run rough with a hole in the vacuum system for the a/c as there's a check valve at the firewall to prevent this...

Are these lines under the dash, or in the engine bay?

Chilton manual? It ain't worth ****. It's very vague. I guess it helps a little, by I didn't find the answer to this problem in it. Maybe there is a better manual.

Re: (slowdx)
My car had the same problem, although I didn't change dashes, I got a different climate control and then the Floor air and defroster worked again.
Maybe try that???? I dunno other than that

Re: Dash swap= HVAC controls don't work. Only get air out of face vents. Help. (civicmatt)
I figured it out. I missed a plug and now I have pictures!
I started looking here, behind the glove box. The green circled plug controls the fresh air/recirculation. The plug circled in red controls the fan motor.
In this picture, the yellow circled plug goes to the radio, the teal goes to the cigarette lighter, and the red plug is the dangler. This is the plug I forgot to plug in. I tested wires with a volt meter and made sure everthig was plugged into the climate control. It was as simple as a plug that didn't get plugged in. Good luck with yours!

Check all the plugs under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I remember there were a couple there.
