Dang main bearing...
took my b series block apart and found this today mg:
First off checkout the fitment of this bearing insert: wtf?
bottom bearing insert (one that sits in the block):
top bearing insert (one that sits in the crank cap):

apparentely it was like this and i never even knew. not sure how long it was like this but how does this happen? did whoever built this block last put the wrong bearing inserts in? also how did this not cause any kind of problems??
how it all looks now:

lack of oil usually causes bearing problems.. dirty oil.. hows the crank look? is it scored up? if its not too bad you can get the crank polished and new bearings and be set..

Re: Dang main bearing... (geebs)
Are you sayin this motor was runing fine like this?
That bearing is probably like that because it got a little warm+++

yeah it ran fine, no noise or anything. maybe this happened when the motor blew up too?
the store of the motor blowing up:
intake cam gear skipped 90 degrees of timing at 5000rpm and dropped a valve into cylinder #4. It then shot debrees into every other cylinder somehow (probably something to do with the intake cam being 90 degrees off) and chipped up every piston (#4 piston was BAD, valve did some damge to it), and ruined the head by chipping the combustion chamber in every cylinder on the head. basically it was a total loss.
so could this bearing have spun like that (looks like fatigue failure) and somehow had something to do with that cam slipping timing? it never had any kind of knocking before so im stumped.
it was cool having it all go out in a large catastrophic failure though.
