Is the tail light lit dimly like if you had your lights on or brighter like braking. But inorder to see if I have a schematic I need more info.. Like what car?

This happened to me when I had my Accord. IT COULD BE this little plastic sensor thingamajiggy on your brake pedal. I can't explain it that well because I'm tired but basically the sensor thing touches another sensor thing when the pedal is not pressed. When you press the pedal, and the sensors are not touching, then you're brake lights turn on. I hope this makes sense to you.
So either adjust your pedal to make them touch, or if it's broken get a new one. It's a little plastic cone looking thing on the arm of the brake pedal, about 6-8 inches up. Mine cracked off and my battery drained overnight so I had to go to honda to get that little stupid part. Disconnect your battery until then.

This could definitely be the culprit, or it could be in the wiring. Sound like a bad switch most likely.

To me it looks like the switch would be the problem if the brake lights didn't come on. Somewhere power is getting into the circuit. Check under the dash first. Find the right wire and follow it. If there is notable damage of any kind cut out the middle section and run a new wire. Solder and heat shrink it though. No butt connectors.

just go to the dealer and get a new brake light switch ... they are like 28 bucks ... to test it you can just unplug it and if the light turns off then you know the switch is bad

However.. That will not only tell him that it may be the switch itself, but pedal adjustment may be off as well. Unplug the clip from the switch. Check for continuity between the B and C terminals. If you don't have cruise then the switch is only a 2p so this is easy. With cruise check between the Upper right and lower left. This is if you are looking at the switch with where the wiring clip locks on is up.

If there is continuity when the brake pedal is not pressed then check the pedal adjustment. Do this before spending the $28 just in case your switch is good. Since just unplugging it will not tell you for sure, 100% that the switch is causing the issue Stripped Honda.
