DAMN THIS *@$#&*%!)@&$@# TACHOMETER!!
I previously owned an autometer tach. That worked fine until it slowly started crapping out. The revs would rise WAY too fast and it wouldn't go below 2500 rpms...then 5000 rpms...back down to 1200 rpms...then finally it just got stuck at 8500 rpms and wouldn't budge any lower. So I removed the autometer tach and just ran tachless for awhile. Figured I'll just buy an EX gauge cluster and stay OEM, maybe its just my tach thats F*ed up.
Fast forware a few months after I finally stop being lazy and buy the cluster.
Just installed it and WHADDYA ******* KNOW??!? The tachometer doesn't budge AT ALL. Its as if there isnt even any power to it.
Any ideas?
Oh yeah, its a 92 CX

NO the tach should work. IT is a plug n play mod..My girl friend has a SI cluster in her CX and it works, the only thing is the needle was a little messed up so every once in a while you have to tap on the cluster and it kicks up the RPM...Check to see if the needle is under the peg or something.

Where are you tapping the TACH signal wire from? Are you going straight out to the "tach-connector" out in the engine bay? Or are you tapping into the tach wire behind the dash?
You'll get a better/cleaner signal tapping the tach signal straight from the distributor itself. Otherwise, the "tach-connector" out in the engine bay does fine too.
Also, check your other wires going to your Autometer tach. I had probs like that too, turned out to be a bad ground wire for the tach.

Si cluster works fine in mine aswell. I would, check for any voltage going to that prong in the wiring harnes(plug for the cluster) when the car is running. If so, then I would replace the cluster! good luck
