Default D16Z6. Who actually uses this engine?

I got a 95 EX with the D16Z6 of course and I want to know who else has this motor and what the hell they have done to it. I know everyone talks about throwing a b18 in there and how the z is a nicely forged block but it also responds the worst to bolt-ons. So, do I save money for a swap or save money to turbo it? I would really like some honest outside opinions on it. Thanks.

there are so many threads in this forum about this motor, or SOHC motors in general.

if you search for a while, you'll find a lot of useful opinions and you can read up on different $cost / setups with B-series and D-series motors that people are using.

but anyway, you can expect to receive a lot of replies telling you to just go turbo D-series, because it can be cheaper most of the time and, depending on your preferences, is almost as fun, or as fun, or more fun than a B-series.

There might be some useful information here in this thread
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1229661 because it's full of B-series and D-series people arguing about which is better...uselessly, of course.

well..
the difference between a b16 and a d16 is just the dohc.. its like a 25 hp difference.. not a whole lot

depending on your price limits... d16's are fine.. theyre cheap engines, parts are cheap, easy to work on... reliable engines.. and the underdog imo...

if u upgrade to a b series u gotta lay out the cash for a conversion.. and uve only gained a couple douzen horse.. where as turboing it for cheaper gains u alot more power..

it all really depends on how much power u need...

i like my d16... id turbo it if i had the money.. but im likely gonna have to rebuild it before i do that (coming up to 300 000..)

I enjoy my z6. It's really fun to drive and I really can't tell much difference between my car and my friends B16 as far as the motor goes. I've test drove some civics that had a B18 and there is marginal difference... but if and when you turbo your D16 it won't matter much. In my opinion, unless you want a 400hp monster. Turbo what you have and save your cash.

If you really, really want DOHC yeah a B16 or B18 is a very rational swap. But a bigger cam and an affordable turbo kit will make up for it with what you've got.

i'll take a D16Z6 over a B16. if i go B-series, it has to be a B18 or better.

I enjoy my stock D16Z6, when its running right (working on it).
I am looking into doing a "good bang for your buck" turbo upgrade soon.

i just swaped in a Z6 into my CRX and i love the crap out of it, with the right bolt on's its kick ***, i put a Bisimoto header, clutch, lightened flywheel, ect. ect.... B's are way overrated, if u want something that throws big #'s go with a K motor, other then that have a fun time with the Z6.

Keep an eye out for that thread "Who enjoys their SOHC?" thread. It's kept it's spot here on the first page. Go through that and you'll learn a lot. Here it is...
