D16z6, what kinda real power do u guys get?
hey everyone im swapping in a z6 in my crx...it has a stage 2 zex cam and a couple bolt ons, ran a 15.2 in a previous gutted crx..I was wondering whats the best route to make some real power/times. it has low miles around 50k so im leaning toward a small turbo set-up I have alot of parts to do it, any other opnions please let me know I want to have it done while everythings out and ready to be worked on.

turbo-ing a d-series is probably the best way to go to get 'real' power out of it. you'll pull some 13s maybe even 12s if it is tuned correctly and how your turbo is set up well thats my opinion, just go turbo

Go with a turbo LS setup more bang for the buck. Turbo on vtec ehhhh not so good as non vtec. Plan on doing lots of internal work for your d16z6

Thats stupid. Any competent tuner with good engine management would much rather go turbo VTEC than non. And he said small turbo so as long as he keeps the boost resonable on a 50k motor, no internal work is necessary although it wouldnt hurt.
Turbo + cam = good stuff
Turbo + cam = good stuff

I really don't know

and you state this because?
Go turbo D16z6
people with home made turbos have been making nice power for relatively cheap

Because he is clueless
Anyway back on topic
Go turbo. I spent around 1950 on my setup. I chose to go with a kit rather piecing it together. The biggest reason was because I am impatient. And I got a good deal on a greddy kit with IC and BOV. I think stock PSI is 5psi. It was fun. I turned up the boost yesterday and I tell ya....it is crazy. Best money I ever spent.

You ran 15.2 in a guuted crx with a z6. Thats the first problem.
Secondly everyone Turbo D's are a great bang for the buck. You can go 13's without a prob on stock internals.
Good luck.

Re: (EJ8 D15Y8)
i bet if u built the motor more (internals and what not), and if ur a good driver, i bet u could hustle a lot of people. if ur just trying to go fast, nitrous, or if u have the money, turbo is the way to go. turbo setups are so cheap for that motor.

yea numerous 14b's and T-25's have sat in my grage ive just never got to them...my plan is to run a T-25 at around 5-6psi with dsm 450's, and some management...a kit would be worth it but im poor so its gonna be a homemade set-up for me...anyone have any numbers/times for their set-ups? thanx for the input btw.

Re: (Mr. Teal)
haha yall know nothing. i seen d engine up to 200hp. what the diff. dohc and sohc. same thing once your rebuilt. doesn't really matter. just turbo it. save you some money. unless you just want a dohc sooo bad. then be my guess if you wanna pay an extra 3000$. and non-vtec and vtec turbo. just depend on how you like it. you don't need vtec. and if you do. doesn't hurt. but if you planning on putting on some really hott cams or cam. then vtec might be better. not for power but for daily. you need that smooth bottom end.

Re: (civic_type_r)
I got 262whp on a completely stock block Z6 setup. This was on 12.3 lbs of boost. I tried pushing the block to the limits but the map sensor stopped me there. I tried for 15 psi cause I wanted an even 300.

Built block is in now being broke in. New setup going in sometime once I get 1000 miles on her.

Re: (ladysman)
what how can that be. what is that on stock interno. i can't firgure out how you create that much hp. i mean i'm boosting at 8pounds. and i'm only getting about 170 at the wheels.

All stock block on 12.3 lbs (Peak and hold function on the AVCR said this). Tuned on Hondata by myself. ON the second run I made less power but he shut it down at 7k cause my shift light came on. He was suppose to got to 7500 cause it was still pulling.
I used a nice sized t3/t4.

Re: (ladysman)
i don't see how you did it. but a t3/t4 is too big. you get turbo lag. why go t3/t4 when you can get a t25 or a 18 or 15g. i mean you wanna boost the most with the least amount of turbo lag. isn't that right. yes it is

t3/t4 lag a bit in the low end but once it hits high end it hauls *** and it wont heat up like the smaller turbos at higher psi. Also note that PSI does NOT equal CFM's. 10psi on a T25 does not make the same power as 10psi on a T3/T4 on the same engine.

Lag = traction control dood. I had a small turbo before and it sucked and fell at redline.
I did because the setup was WELL thoughtout, free flowing, tuned well, with a little luck. A T3/T4 is NOT too big. A buddy just bought the old setup from me. Identical except he went with a smaller snail. It spools fully at ~3500. Perfect combo.
