Default d16z6 vs. d15b7

Honestly guys what kind of power advantages are there to the z6 vs. the b7.

Im swapping in a z6 next weekend and I will be using the stock dx tranny and I am just wondering how much of a performance gain I will have. Right now I have a 92 hatch w/d15b7 I/H/E....... well just look at my sig. I just want some type of realistic estimations on how much this will improve the performance.
NO FLAMES PLEASE< DONT TELL ME TO SWAP A b16-17-18-20, I like the d series motors and plus I dont have enough money to spend on a b series swap.

I know the z6 has like 125hp versus the b7's 102 but will I really notice it that much?

save your money better then you'd be able to afford a better engine j/k

is the swap going to be to a stock z6?

i am in your exact same shoes and my sister's car has a d16z6 i dont think its worth it (very little power increase) atleast i felt so, i am going b18b and its not too much more plus great for future turbo

Nah, I am in the same shoes you are. I have a 92 dx hatch and about a couple of months ago I fucked up my dx motor(stock) because it was raining and I got some water in my engine through the intake and i didnt have a water bypass valve and fucked up rod in the motor. So I was debating on what engine I wanted to get and I knew it had to be b-series, but then I realized I how much money I had to work with so I got a jdm d16z6(ZC) motor(it came off a a 92-95 civic VTI). It has about 132 horses, a couple more then the 92-95 si motor. I could tell a significant amount of horsepower difference, It pulls prettey hard when you hit third gear for a sohc vtec. I like it, the only problem is that my tranny is getting weak so I am replacing the tranny and clutch. after that it should be a pretty quick hatch with only one cam. My advice is that if you get a sohc motor get the d16z6 motor its pretty good for the money.

unless you get it CHEAP i dont think its worth it and considering what you've got done to your own engine... you'll notice the difference even less

you'll notice the si/ex transmission more than you notice the engine

a stock b18b is no better than a d16z6, yeah a little more torque but still
really an b18b in a civic isnt fast, very close to the d16
d16 has more low end tq and it will pull on a b18b in the same car 0-60 at least

unless your going to mod the b18b then they have potential
d16's arnt even fast enough to be fun

why do a swap if your not guna go big??? i know a guy that went from his cx to a d16z6 decided it was too slow and got a b16(LOL) and now he is guna get a b18c cuz the b16 isnt fast enough

b16s just really suck for the money I guess then. So basically, save the extra Grand or so and get a GSR?

As for Hondafk You might have a little bit more acceleration on the highway around top end of 3rd gear and thats pretty much all you be able to tell.

I had a 92 Civic DX hatch. With the old D15b7 I/H/E it ran a 10.6 in the 1/8th. With a 93 D16z6 it ran a 9.8 1/8th and a 15.3 1/4 with the same mods. Quite a improvement for 7 hours and $500 I think.
If your thinking B16 is not worth it my new 92 VX hatch with the stock motor with only a Greddy Exhaust ran a 11.3 in the 1/8th. With my B16 and I/H/E it ran a 9.2 in the 1/8th and a 14.4 1/4 which is faster than alot of people running GSR hatches.
It's all just bench racing though, Mista bone has run faster with a b7 in his hatch than alot of gsr hatches have too.

I am getting a pretty much stock z6 from a fellow H-Ter for 450 bucks, He is also giving me a new kevlar clutch and he's gonna help me put it in next weekend. Its a really good deal considering how much junk yards around here want for the same motor, 750 bucks for just the motor. I just cant really afford that much for a big swap and I am just looking for more of a replacement than a big powerhouse since my b7 is on the verge of self-destruction, It burns about a quart of oil every week and is getting weaker by the days. I just need a suitable replacement, and I think that this motor will fit the bill. I just wanted to know how much I would notice the bigger motor.
Thanks for all your advice/replies.
Oh ya, Ive been thinkin about goin with a delta cam for the z6 too, Not a wild one but a fairly streetable cam that I wouldnt have to change my valvetrain.

Looks Like there are a lot of us in the same boat, My Dx’s D15b7 is burning oil to. I just bought a D16z6 for 500.00. The way I see it is what can you buy for a B or D motor that costs 500.00 and net you a real 20hp increase in power? I looked into a B16 swap, but I figured on top of the cost of the motor I could possibly end up spending another grand to get it running. So…that ends up costing me another two grand for 35 more Hp, to me, that’s not worth it. I’m planning on going through the Z6 motor…valves, mild port and street/strip cam, rings…ect. I’ll probably have another 1000.00 this swap, but I’ll have a mildly modified, completely rebuilt swap for 1500.00. If I can get 145 wheel HP out of this set up I’ll be very happy. Esp. for the final costs… and I have some real nasty plans for the D15b7!

Umm I think a stock B18B swap would be quite an improvement over the d16z6. The d16z6 DOES NOT have more LOW-END torque than a B18B! It has about 20 more ft-lbs of torque I think....

IMO, if you can get a b18b over a z6, do it...or maybe save for a GSR swap...a B16 will have better hp but not great torque, compared to the b18b...spend your money wisely!

Alright guys, I would like to have a b16 or a b17 or a b18 or even an H22 but I cant afford one right now and I need a replacement engine RIGHT NOW!!! The motor that is in my car right now seems like it might last another few days if Im lucky, No power, blowing smoke all over the place and ****. I just need a quick replacement motor, Maybe after I get dont sending my wife to medical school I can afford a bigger swap but right now Im looking for a cheap (GET ME BY TILL I CAN AFFORD SOMETHING DIFFERENT) motor.
I was just simply asking how much of a difference I could expect with a z6.

I have been saving all the money I could now for about the past 3 months and all I have is 500 bucks, If you guys can give me a b16, a gsr, or a b18 swap with tranny for 500 bucks cool. If not then why do you think that im goin the d16z6 route. My wifes education is a little more important than an engine.
