Default D16Z6 Transmission Options...Need Help!

Hey guys, new to HT. I'm building a nasty little D16Z6 looking to make over 400hp and have no clue what transmission to bolt to it that will handle it. Building it for 1/4 mile drag. Any ideas about what trannys are out there that I can bolt to it to make it better? Any help would be great.

all you could really do is put any d series tranny to it, but I don't think you are going to handle 400 hp too long without building the insides a little bit..

About the only thing any better is a JDM D15B Vtec tranny with the optional LSD, its geared the same as the Z6 tranny, only difference is the LSD. From what I recall D-series trannys are actually pretty tough, the stock differential is the weak piont from what I recall.

I was hoping there was a better option for a different tranny but I guess not lol. So should I just bolt up a Z6 trans and build the inside or is there a better d series option to build up? Like maybe a y8 trans or d17 maybe fit? Just want to build it right the first time so it doesnt blow up on me at the track lol. So as far as building the internals... what do I need to build up... should I go aftermarket lsd? or do I just need to call skunk2 or someone like that and spend a crap load of money having them build it? I'm just trying to get the best options without spending a lot of money if you know what I mean...

yeah, the differential is what usually goes on ppl's d series around here.. the d15b lsd one would be pretty stout though..

well if you were going to build an Ef, I would do the ZC tranny.. it has a 4.43 final drive from factory.. it's a hard to find tranny though and it has a half shaft and all on it, like a b series tranny, but if you are going with the eg which I expect you are, then It wouldn't really matter the gear ratio's almost match on the z6 and y8 tranny's so it would just be which one can you find cheaper to start building..

Obviously I'm planning on a stage 3 clutch and flywheel and upgrading to enjo stage 3 axles and all that good stuff. So the d15b comes oem with an lsd or is that an aftermarket upgrade? What car does the d15b come out of?

Nevermind, just did some research on google lol. The d15b lsd you speak of is from the jdm 92-00 civic... so is that the same as the zc i take it?

I'm building an eg, so would it be better to do the d15b lsd (if I can find one) or build a z6 tranny and install an aftermarket lsd and build from there? Thanks again for your help.

Well, the Y8 tranny has steel shift forks compared to the Z6s aluminum ones, which i'd kind of forgotten about. Y8 with a D15B LSD is probably as tough as you can get with stock honda parts. H-T has a transmission and drivetrain forum btw, you can probably get a lot of good info in there.

Ok...so... if I do a D16Y8 transmission and an aftermarket lsd with stage 3 clutch flywheel and axles I should be in the clear for putting 400+ to the ground without blowing up the trans right? Or do I need to do something to the gears or anything like that... I apologize I'm great with engines but retarded when it comes to trannys lol.

Hey. Im doing the same build, got my Z6 holding about 300 all motor and I had to swap in new gears that matched the response and ratio I wanted.
