D16z6 timing
I just bought a 93 del sol and wanted to double check the timing. When I got the car it didn't have a bottom timing cover so can somebody tell me if there's a way to check it and set it without the cover? I've looked on Google and don't see anything. Thanks

Re: D16z6 timing
Pull the crankshaft pulley off and line it up off of the oil pump arrow and crankshaft timing gear. Unless you are talking about ignition timing (being vague doesn't help) then you could use the oil pump arrow and the crank pulley, but this is much harder to line up visually. Make thing easy and just get a new cover.

Re: D16z6 timing
Sorry. I forgot I changed forums while I was looking around. But I was talking about ignition timing. I knew what I was talking about but wasn't paying attention when I posted. I didn't see any marks anywhere to set it except on the crank pulley but I'll look again. Thanks

Re: D16z6 timing
One can assume many things, but I am not inside your head, yet. Pretty hard to miss, did you use a flashlight or even try to clean off all the oil first? It's a large arrow when compared to B-series. The timing marks on on the lip of the crank pulley.
Sometimes you have to try searching though...

Re: D16z6 timing
I saw the marks on the crank pulley. But I've never messed with a Honda. I've only set timing on older v8s so I wasnt exactly sure where else to look when I saw the arrow was on the timing cover. Thanks though

Re: D16z6 timing
Well then it shouldn't be any different for you. On the older engines, most were either built into / tack welded the timing chain cover or a bolted on tab. The chain & sprocket combo used dots under the cover for mechanical timing. As the years progressed they went to ways identical to Hondas with just one mark to align. The new stuff is just random as people try to reinvent the wheel solely to make their mark. You are welcome, hopefully you get it all figured out.
