Default d16z6-T vs d15b vtec-T

the d16z6 and d15b vtec engines are the 2 that im considering. i already have a d16z6 and like the way it feels with I/H/E but it burns oil like crazy and it's not enough power for me so i've decided that i will go turbo in the near future. i've decided that my only options are to swap in another sohc longblock since it would be cheaper than a rebuild (150,XXX miles) but if there are other options please enlighten me. i'd also like to know all the pro's/con's of having a sohc turbo setup and which engine is better for boost in the long run @ what psi on stock internal's or is it better to sleeve it and get pistons n' ****. im still fairly new to forced air and dont have the knowledge to browse around in the FI forum knowing what they're talking about so use lamens terms. money is a issue too

Well, since your current d16z6 has 150,xxx k miles..and that you mentioned that it burns hella oil, that would not be good for turbo at all. Either way, you are going to have swap over a new block. I would recommend that if you can find a d16z6, you get that because the d16 has more potential. If you can't find one, there is nothing wrong with a d15b either. Around my area, d15b longblocks can be bought for 225$. Its a matter of what you can get ur hands on, and for the cheapest, since your on a budget.

Either way, you need a new block, or a rebuild ( too expensive)

It would probably be cheaper for you to just get a Z6 b/c the d15b is jdm and you would have to buy it through a company and get it shipped and everything...

Go with the D16...more displacenment = quicker spool.

Neither is going to be stronger than the other...as far as holding up to boost.

Edelbrock makes the most complete kit right now...but expect to pay LOTS for it....the Apex ball bearing setup I had was VERY nice.... Greddy's always a good choice. BUT, you can take a HF/VX/HX/96-00 D16Y6 etc etc exhaust manifold, get an adapter plate, and choose your turbo. Custom piping, DSM BOV, DSM injectors and a Conquest FMIC....you can have a decent setup for very little.

There are many choices and everyone will tell you different. Do your research

ahh, i see what you're saying about the exhaust manifold since they're 2 pieces on those cars right. hmm, it seems hard to find junkyard parts around here since everyone rapes em so homemade turbo would be hard to piece together. thanks
