Idle should be around 700 rpms. You can adjust the nut for the throttle cable.

thats not a good idea. fix whats making it idle low. and if you absolutely must adjust the idle , theres a screw for that. dont tighten the throttle cable , lol.

if you idle and the car is not moving, and you move the steering wheel, it will lower the RPMs because the pump has to work harderand the engine speed is decreased due to the strain.

Thats how i see it

I don't think your idle is wrong.

i agree....find out why the idle is low first...unplugg the iacv and see if it stalls....if it does than its gotta be your timing....if it doesnt stall play around with your dizzy and see if you can adjust the spark timing and raise the idle to where is should be. .....how is top end performace? how does your car respond to WOT? when was he last time you had a tune up? air filter? plugs? do you have a check engine light? if all of those are good than dont worry about and just use the idle adjustment screw....flat head that sits almost fluch with the throttle body on the side where the intake attatches to.

I hope when you say "play around with" you mean "use a timing light" <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by dohcdelsol &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">under your hood read the lable.... it says stock idel is 650 + - 50 rpm's

As far as the power steering lowering idle, there is a pressure switch on your rack somewhere that detects if you turn your wheel, so if that is working properly, your ecu will idle the engine up a little higher to compensate for the load. Same with AC.

its not always the rack , most ive seen are in the pressure line , and thats exactly whats causing this prolly. unplugged or wore out.

Just a thought here... have you checked motor mounts? I had 1 loose bolt at the transmission which made mine shake at idle and slip out of 3rd sometimes.
