Default D16Z6 Into 96 EJ8 Using ODB2 Harness and P2P ECU - cranks but won't start

Hey everyone, so I just finished this swap in my coop, and it wont start, i think the immobilizer is coming on, as no relays are being activated at ignition.

What do I do here to get it started? I aint cranked it once yet.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is spark bright white at the plugs?

Are the plug wires installed in the correct firing order on the distributor cap?

Are the fuel injectors spraying when the engine is cranked?

Is the mechanical timing set correctly?

Timing is set.

Checked the plugs for spark, there is spark, but I am about to get some new plugs tonight.

Have not checked the injectors are sparying, will do this tonight.

I really think the firing order is wrong, and I have searched, and tried a few differnc combinations, btu there is so much conflicting information.

Which order is correct?

The cylinders are order 4-3-2-1 as you go from the distributor to the timing belt.

Also, I presume that you'll need an OBDII-OBDI conversion harness and an OBDI ECU for your set up. For example, are several CEL codes thrown?

I am using the full d16Y8 intake setup, so odb2 loom and ecu.

only one code, 6, water temp sensor.

that waht i was looking for, thanks.

Not absolutely sure, but I believe that you may also need the D16Y8 head and distributor, if you don't already.

Code 6 won't prevent the engine from starting, though you will want to fix that eventually.

Thanks for the PM eric.

I just tied cranking it again tonight, but no joy.

checked
fuel, spark, both ok

changed
leads and new plugs.

tried,
advancing timing, cranking it lots and lots.

nothing has worked.

Eric suggested I need a crank sensor. How do I add this considering I have no wires left over in my harness?

I was going to suggest that since the D16Y8 engine has a CKF sensor, and your 96 EX ECU is looking for it.

It absolutely should be throwing codes though.

EDIT

Use the OBD2A instructions.

What country are you in? I'm guessing its not north america from seeing earth instead of ground and also due to the mention of the immobilizer, both suggest Europe to me. The reason I ask is because i'm not sure that European OBD2 civics had a CKF sensor, JDM models definately didn't.

I am in Scotland.

Yeah, the only code it is throwing is 6, which I understand to be water temp.

I really do not know if it has a CKF sensor. It is not throwing a code to indicate this, and also I do not recall having to unplug anything near the oil pump when I took the D16y8 out.

I am totaly out of ideas why It will not start when cranked.

try spraying carb or intake cleaner into the throttle body well cranking it over if it fire's you know the problem is with fuel. i have seen injectors seize if they set for awhile are you useing the z6 or y8 ?

So I have been reading that there are differnces in the timing between the z6 and y8.

So it is not going to run whatsoever unless i run a jumper harness and a p28 ecu.

Is this right?

Is it even possible to run a z6 on a p2p ecu????

hey canadaek., it is getting plenty of fuel, i took the old plugs out and they had pleanty of fuel on them, they were a bit wet with fuel.

I am starting to wonder if it is even possible to run a z6 on a p2p ecu.

It'll run, but the timing will be off. Better idea would be to run a conversion harness and a P28.

Set the engine to TDC1 and take clear pictures of the cam and the crank (alignment of pointer with crank pulley marks).

Is there bright white spark at all four plugs?

What are the cylinder compressions?

Are the injectors spraying gas when the engine is cranked?
