Default D16Z6? or Integra?

Ok I have a 93 Integra right now lightly modified and I love it, unfortunately the body has rusted severely and I want to get a new car. Since the Integra has been such a great car I was thinking I would just get another one of a newer year. however recently I have been gaining interest in the D Series motor simply because it seems cheaper to build one. I want to go all motor, I'm not looking to win any races or anything, I just want it to be a peppy little car.

So here is my situation:
I can either get an Integra which will require a 3 yr loan, and forces me to have to put full coverage on my car. Which means I will not be able to mod the car for 3 years because I won't have ANY extra money at all, until it is payed for.

or

I can buy a cheaper D16Z6 car such as a 1995 Honda Civic SI Hatchback w/ the D16Z6 and have it paid off within a year, and build it up, plus I also have an Injen Intake for a D Series engine already.

I would like to design the car with Auto-crossing in mind, a very well handling car, with more instant all motor performance. My concern is how strong the D Series engine is, building the head is no biggie, but tearing the block apart to add new internals is another. I know the B Series bottom end is very strong, and capable of taking some beatings, but I have heard the D Series bottom end cannot handle the extra power well.

Keep in mind no matter what car I buy I want to keep all motor, I would like to build the Head (Cams, Valves, Springs, Retainers), Intake & Exhaust (Intake, Intake Manifold, TB, Exhaust Manifold, Exhaust, High Flow Cat), and Maybe Ignition and Fuel if required. How much power will this produce with a D Series engine?

So what do you guys think?

by the time you get your d-series engine to put out 50 whp over stock without forced induction, you would have spent more than doing a b-series change over. IMO, I would go for the civic chassis with b series engine to get the most overall HP gain per dollar spent.

Well how much do you think the upgrades I have listed will add? And by power adder you mean Supercharger or Turbo or Nitro?

I got a question about the swap, doesn't that add more weight to the front of the car giving it bad handling results? Like more understeer because of the akward weight distribution?

Keep in mind that prices are very general depending on brand chosen and also who does the labor for port/polished.

port/polish/3 angle valve job/resuface Head-800.00
Cams-250.00
Valves-250.00
Springs/Retainers-250.00
Intake-150.00
Exhaust-250.00
Intake Manifold-225
TB(GSR)-150
Exhaust Manifold (equal length w/merge collector)-400.00
High Flow Cat-100.00
ignition amplifier/external coil-300.00

You're roughly 3000.00 in parts alone.

You might want to raise the compression with aftermarket pistons-400.00+

All the stuff listed is mainly for the top end of the engine. You will also have to think about pistons, rods, and all the associated machine work (hot tank block, bore/hone cylinder walls, deck block, micropolish crank journals). And then all the gaskets and accessories for the bottom end(water pump, oil pump). I'm not trying to discourage you, just trying to give you a general idea of what you're getting into. I personally support the d-series build because that's what I did for my 94 civic sedan, but I went fully built w/turbo. I have two customers that are going fully built w/turbo and just on the engine alone (parts/labor) roughly 6500.00.

I'm supercharged, and I'm still not making 50whp over stock. I've seen some high end N/A D builds make it to 180hp, but most end up at 150-160 and cost about as much as installing a B16... which is there all by itself.

I mean it's totally possible to have a peppy D through an N/A build, and for those of us who just like to build something for fairly cheap and who don't really race, it's not really a bad idea.

Then again, I made ~160hp with $800, the route your about to take is going to cost you ~3000 easily.
