Default d16z6 with headwork and cams, can stock bottom end handle 8k redline?

If I send my head to *X* company and got a basic head package including a full valve train and a more aggresive cam can the stock bottom end handle an 8k redline?

depends on the shape of the bottom end.

my bottom end with 130x miles on it has seen it's share of 8k revs, but that's not all the time. Don't expect it to last a long time doing so either.

Plus, most Z6 cams don't even produce power up there, so it's almost pointless

i put my friends skunk2 ecu in my car with a 9200 limit and it handled it fine.. but i noticed the car actually lost power after 8k. i guess 9200 is only good if you have some internal work done.

bill</TD></TR></TABLE> revving a stock z6 motor to 9200 is plain stupid. they start to lose power after 6700. i could see revving it to 7500 in first and second at the dragstrip but thats about as high as it would ever need to go.

to answer your question, yeah you can rev it to 8k with stock bottom end, but for as cheap as you can get pistons and rods for a d seris why would you not put them in. especially since the head will already be off the car.

a friend of mine has a z6...JG cam, JG cam gear, larger JG throttle body, DC header and thinner head gasket...its guttless after 7000...why would you wanna rev to 8000 if it makes no power in that range?

So its the bottom end which holds back the power and not the head. I thought it wasnt making power after 7k due to poor air flow from the head and cams. BTW.. I have a 2nd block being built right now for boost. But it wont be complete for a little while. Just wanted to see the benifits on running a nice z6 head on a stock block.

Thanks for the replys guys... I'll put it on the dyno once I get the head on to see what improvements I get. Now to just select a company to send the head out too...
