D16Z6 head, D16Y8 block, timing belt issue?
Just as the title says. The block and head mate perfectly, the new head gasket and ARP studs are installed (9 Y8 studs and 1 D16Z6 stud), the new timing belt (Z6), water pump and tensioner are installed.
Now my problem: I can rotate this engine as much as I want and the timng belt doesn't slip or skip around, but there's about 1/2 an inch of play on the trailing edge of the belt, i.e. the half that rotates up to the cam gear from the crank pulley without going through the tensioner or water pump. Slack on the other side is perfect.
I'm sure it's fine, but I'd like to hear some testimonials from people who have done this same hybrid D-series setup, especially speaking to the slack/tension of the timing belt. I'd hate this dude's engine to toss the belt and catastrophically fail 5 miles away from my house.
Thanks mates,
Mike.

^ AWESOME!
What is the part number on the timing belt? As far as I know you should have used the one from a Y8 vehicle (14400-P2E-004).

Re: (Stop the Beast)
i will have this same problem, i wrote honda tunning (december 2005 issue) and they said that the cam gear on the z6 would be half a tooth off on my y7 block and would recommed on me getting an adjustable cam gear to off-set this problem, i havent got my car up and running yet with the head on (been really tight on money, waiting on school to let out for the semester). don't know if this info will really help you any but you never know, check back to that issue in honda tunning and read exhaust notes for Turbo mini-me? good luck with this

I'm using a D16Y8 VTEC block.
