D16z6 Grinding when clutch is released...
Have a buddy that has a tranny problem...
93 del sol si
d16z6
5 speed
In his words it doesent pop out, will hold gear till redline...
I hopped in and put it in first, slowly let out the clutch and it made a non concistent grinding noise...
The gears are NOT grinding I wan't to think its the throwout bearing but never had one go bad on me...
Anytime you let the clutch out weather its when your first starting off or shifting it grinds and pops when you let it out...
Otherwise the tranny works perfectly fine...

If you put it in nuetral and push and hold the clutch pedal in do you hear the "grinding" noise? Usually a bad T/O bearing will make a squeeling noise when they go south. If its grinding while going through the gears it could be either a T/O bearing that needs to be adjusted in or the synchros or going bad.

No noise when you hold it in...
just when the to bearing starts to push into the clutch... once it's in it's not a problem... well untill you shift again...
Car cam with all the service papers and for 2 years the same tech keeps writing check clutch sometime soon... but also writes seems fine...
I allmost don't want to call it a grind... its allmost like a thunk or deep tinking... sounds nothing like gears grinding... it's hard to explain...
Ron sorta had that in the back of my mind as well...

I'm not too familiar with the tranny but is their an inspection plate that can be removed so that someone can SAFELY watch the T/O bearing engage/disengage?

If a D tranny is anything like a B the only place to do that would be to remove the shift fork boot and get your head somehow down in there to look... I'm pretty sure it's the TO or input shaft bearing... just wondering if anyone had this type of sound and what they had found...
