I'm curious about the cost. Say a Civic has like 380,000 miles and the engine finally died due to overheating and a leaking #1 cylinder. Is it better to rebuild that engine or to just get a used one?

Alright I don't think it was mentioned anywhere in the thread. What gasket set did you use and where did you buy it from? I need to buy a new valve cover gasket for my del sol, and I would rather just buy the whole set. Any info would be appreciated.

Well I did all my own work so the re-build cost for me was low. you will need to have the head resurfaced, block resurfaced and possible de-glaze of the cyl walls for the new rings. Id also recommend valve job too.

THANK YOU!!! i've been looking all over for pictures on how to remove and install the camshaft, i'm getting ready to do a stage 2 cam along with new retainers and springs, and haven't done it before. All of your pictures and details are a lifesaver! Thanks again!

I only read that he used a valve cover gasket from Ebay aaaaaaaaaaaand he took extra steps to make sure it wouldn't fail. But really. We're talking about a VC gasket. Not a head gasket.

As someone who has done some write-ups of my own, this one, I must say, is incredibly good. Way above my skill level right now. I can navigate vehicle electrical like a champ, but anything motor related that's more involved than a VC gasket replacement and I get nervous. These kinds of DIYs are just what an amateur like me needs to boost confidence.
