d16z6 in ek idles fine but blows white smoke when driving
I have z6 in my 00 ek civic. The other day while driving I noticed my temp go up slightly and then drop back down. I stopped checked fluids and all were good. An hr later after driving still it shot out a huge cloud of white smoke and continued to smoke. I quickly shut it off and had it towed home. It starts and idles just fine. But while idling it still smokes but not very thick or alot. Until I press on the gas slightly. My thought is its getting coolant into the motor and that's what is causing the white smoke. I know for sure its not the head gasket. My head gasket is a cometic head gasket about 2 yrs old but no more than 20k miles on it. Oil is Not Milky looking and isn't low. No visible sign of a coolant leak around my intake manifold or oil leak around the head. I need ideas on what to check on a budget. intake manifold gasket?? Or anything else that connects coolant to the block?

Will do tmw when I'm off. Just trying to get some ideas beforehand. What else could it possibly be tho if its not head gasket?

Engine got hotter, blowing white smoke, I guarantee it's your head gasket. Like said previously get a compression test done. Keep driving the car and I bet you will get milky oil sooner or later.

Yea im deff not driving it. But could be. I'm not completely ruling it out. But I just find it highly incapable of being it seeing how the cometic head gaskets r rated for so much more than I have it running and for a lot longer then I've had it.

If you ask me that head gasket could be rated for 1000hp, have only 3 miles on it, and was installed correctly without a hitch. It's a man made part, it is not perfect, and can and will fail. It can fail 500k miles down the road or it can fail as soon as it leaves the garage after installing it. No part is perfect...

Go out to the car and take off the oil cap to see if you have any condensation or milky oil. If not then remove the radiator cap, and then start the car up. Once it get's to operating temps see if you are getting bubbles in the radiator. If you are not then put the cap back on and keep it running. After a while there should be pressure built up in the cooling system if it is operating properly with no leaks. Squeeze the radiator hoses to see if there is any pressure. If there is no noticeable pressure then you have a leak.
These are LITTLE tests you can do to see how your system is performing. But remember the ONLY real way to test is a compression test, or even do a pressure test on your cooling system. Hook up a pressurizer, pump it to around 16lb I believe and see if you lose any pressure on the gauge. These are the ONLY real ways of find an issue.

thank you for that. i will check those little things. im hoping its not the head gasket and its something easier. but thanks again. if anyone else has any ideas pls let me know..

It is the head gasket. Other than a crack in the head that is the only way coolant can get into the combustion chamber.
In my little research I found that cometic gaskets generaly dont last as long as their OEM counterpart. They are race parts and should be treated as such.

There are other ways coolant can get into the combustion chamber. On my intake manifold there is a water jacket next to the #4 intake port. A manifold gasket failure there could introduce water into the combustion chamber.
Read your spark plugs and peer into the spark plug holes to see if you can figure out which cylinder is getting coolant. Pressure test the cooling system and drop/twirl the end of a string in there to see what comes out. If it's #4 it might be worth it to try a manifold gasket.
I still put my money on a head gasket. When the car revs up the combustion pressure/vacuum increases as well as cooling system pressure overcoming the headgasket seal enough to cause increased leakage/smoking. Temperature changes compound the problem.
