D16z6 dying out under pressure (PLease Help)
Wuddup Fellas
I have just recently purchased a new eg with a very nice looking and well maintained d16z6, but the car keep buckling under pressure. the car seems to bog down through each gear, before picking up speed and I do believe that if there was in fact a large enough hill to go over I would not make it because just slowly dies out in acceleration uphill.
I replaced the spark plugs and haven;t test drove yet, but was wondering if anyone could help me out. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: D16z6 dying out under pressure (PLease Help)
Timing belt was just recently replaced as well as cap and wires, but I had not gotten to the plugs until now. I'm not so sure about the rotor cap, but definently check it out.
I have seen a couple of posts that mention the CEL, but unfortunately I am still getting acquainted with hondas and I'm not sure what this abbreviations makes reference to. Can you help?
Also, it appears that there may be a small leak in the valve cover; could this be a factor?

Does the car run fine otherwise? Do a compression test on the motor and see what you find. When you take the plugs out have a look at them to determine how the motor is running, could be running extremely rich or maybe extremely lean.
You also said the timing belt was recently changed, there is a very good possibility the timing is off. If its off a tooth or 2 the motor be at a loss of power and will run just as your describing.

anyway I can check to see if the timing is off without having to take it to the shop. On my 3rd gen eclipse there were notches in the cam gears to let you know whether you were in the right spot, anything similar on the egs.

well on a d16y8 there is 3 marks on the cam gear, 2 of which should line up with the surface of the head and one that should point straight up showing that you are on compression stroke and not exhaust stroke. also there is a vgroove and pointer on your timing belt cover by the harmonic balancer which you have to line up with i believe it's the white mark on the balancer. line this up first, not the cam gear. also if the one line is pointing down, you are on exhaust stroke, turn the engine 180 degrees to get it pointing up
