Default d16z6 with a dx trans?!

I've looked around and did my search but I'm still curious how this will turn out? I'm currently building my d16z6 just for a dd use, and of course for some fun. Im planning on getting comp cam 59100 (I will be keeping my stock internals and just doing port and polish on the head) nothing major in this build as you can see.

My questions was, would this make a huge difference between ex/si tranny? I understand it has shorter gearing than dx.

What are the pros/cons in doing this? And what are your opinion?

Thanks

Mike

What transmission do you have now?

You'll acceralate quicker with the EX/SI trans. than the DX.
But this means higher RPM's on the highway, than the DX transmission. But the DX will get better MPG's.

I would NOT use the DX transmission.

Performance wise your better off with an ex tranny but he lx\dx tranny will get the job done the one you dont want is the cx/vx tranny

I currently have an ex tranny, but 2nd syncro grinds around high rpm, and 3rd is almost out

i just don't want to even mess with it at all. i have a guy selling me dx tranny with linkage (energy suspension bushings) and clutches with pressure plate, all for 100 doll hairs, and at this moment i don't know what to choose

I test drove the dx tranny (d16y7 non-vtec motor) and it's really smooth and with no grinds what so ever.

How would it feel in my d16z6? Would be the same as my ex trans but with longer gearing?

It would "feel" the same, but you're acceleration will suffer quite a bit. Your gas mileage will improve however.

Don't do it. I hate driving the hatch because of the long gearing.

Seriously the Y7s gearing is one of the worst. Stay away

With seven different ratio options between 92-00 D series it is important to ID exactly which model you are looking at for a comparison. The 92-95 SOHC Civic came with three different ratio manual transmissions. The Ex/Si (4.25 FD ratio) DX/LX (4.06 FD ratio) and CX/VX (3.25 FD ratio). The DX/LX has the same shaft gear ratio as the EX/Si on 1st, 4th and 5th with a little longer 2nd and 3rd. The VX is just plain slow and very long geared. The D16Y7 from the 96-00 DX/LX came with about the same shaft gear ratio as the 92-95 DX/LX but had two different FD ratios. The 3 door had a 3.72 FD ratio (VIN EJ63) and the 2dr/4dr DX/LX had a 4.06 FD ratio (VIN EJ6-1/5).

Ok, just by doing some search and hearing what you guys had to say, totally convince me to stay with my ex tranny.

How hard would it be to replace my syncros and what are some different ways I can improve my tranny to get something out of it?

And thanks guys for all your help.

I really appreciate it

Its not very hard to replace the syncros you will need the shop manual be ready to lay out some cash esp if there is damage to the 2nd and 3rd gear assy around 300 a set plus some work to install and shim. On second thought the fact that you asked this question and have never had a transaxle appart you might just want to take it to a shop

Thanks for the heads up

I've done fwd, just never done it by myself. I do have the manual and I'll definitely look up on that.
