D16Z6 is done time for the D15B
Well motor is finally giving up close to 200,000 miles its about time things start going wrong. Thats what i get for jumping into buying something with 196,000 or so miles. With a blown head gasket and pretty sure my timing belt broke this morning. To fix these problems on my d16z6 im probably looking at the same amount of money or maybe even more then to buy the JDM D15B which from what i know is the same as the D16z6. So I need some input on what to do. If I buy my new motor I think that I'm gonna go through (Hmotorsonline) as i've seen that be recomended alot on here. Anyone ever drop in a motor from them and have any problems?

i've gotten several from hmotorsonline. all legit. they recommend that you change water pump, cap, rotor, plug wires, oil pump (i think), timing belt to keep warranty. all of which you are probably gonna have to do with yours... may turn out to be a little more $... but at least you get a motor with lower miles...

The D15B Vtec has a compression ratio or 9.6:1 vs the D16Z6s 9.2:1, now I'm certainly not a forced induction expert, as a matter of fact i'm far from it. But I can tell you that no one who knows anything about turboing will tell you that its better to use a higher compression engine for boost. Thats not to say people can't and haven't turboed higher compression engines, its just not as easy to do reliably.
For the record, the D15B Vtec isn't just a JDM version of the D16Z6, it can probably be best described as a hodge podge of D-series parts:
-D15Z1 (VX) block
-D16Z6 rods (EX/Si)
-D16Z6 head (EX/Si)
-Unique D15B Vtec cam, slightly more agressive the the D16Z6
-Unique domed pistons
-Unique D15B Vtec crankshaft, rod journals are the same as a D16Z6, the main journals however are the same as a D15B7
-D15Z1 (VX) water pump and timing belt, tensioner is not available in the US, the D16Z6 is the closest thing available, it has a slightly larger diameter roller.

You 100% pulled that statement straight out of your *** or you've been grossly misinformed.

I doubt it, they'll probably just give you an estimate or an average. And no, but i've only heard great things about them. I bought my own D15B Vtec from a company called sunrise JDM motors in montreal and had no problems with them, i'm just hesitant to recommend them because I don't know of a single other person who's bought anything from them.

Sounds good to me an extra $100 on something I won't have to worry about later.
I have the thermostat from the last one which I replaced in like august. But its probably a better idea just to get a new one. Oem or Autozone last time i bought that failsafe one supposibly if it goes bad it stays open.
