D16Z6/D16Y7 block
I have a y7 block and a z6 head. i know this is asked a lot and ill prob just get the search link or the link to the minime thread but just wanted to make sure...since im changing between 2 generations of motors....
I have the z6 headstuds and the y7 headstuds which ones should i use?
Should i use a y8 headgasket?
How would timing be? can i just align the crank pulley and cam gear to tdc?
what spark plugs should i use for this combo?
anything else im missing? thanks for the help in advance....i have had lots of experience with hondas just never done a mini me and need my car running for the winter....

Re: D16Z6/D16Y7 block (kinkyintegra)
yeah there is an awesome write up on minime's bauleycivic did a long time ago. if i remember correctly.
to help z6 studs, y8 gasket, timing will be a little off... pretty sure you need an aftermarket cam gear. plugs for a z6/y8 would be fine.
what car is it going into?? you'll need something to activate vtec!

Re: D16Z6/D16Y7 block (MonkeyMagic)
this is going into a 94 civic with a vtec harness already.....how far will timing be off if i use stock cam gear? do i really need 1 z6 stud? if so in what spot? thanks for all the help guys...im picking up a z6 timing belt today just need to get a y8 gasket and then im throwing it together...what kind of compression am i looking at with this? above 10.5:1?

Yup, you really need that 1 head stud. It goes where the VTEC solenoid is (back left). When you do a '88-'95 head on to a '96-'00 block, or the opposite, you need 9 studs for the specific block and 1 for the specific head.

i have been hearing that if i use the z6 head with the y7 block the timing will be off....can i just put the y7 gear on the z6 cam and use the y7 belt? if not then what do i do about timing without an adjustable gear?
? regarding headgasket......i should use a y8 for higher compression? do i have to take off layers or just buy it and put in? i will do 9 y7 studs and one z6 stud by the vtec solenoid...
i also read somewhere that both the y7 and z6 timing belts are both 104 tooth...so i dont need another z6 belt? thanks for all the help!
