D16Z6 to D15B
Ok, so here is basically where I am at. I have a '93 Si with a Z6. Due to head/head gasket problems and a couple of other things I'm going to put a newer engine in, considering how cheap they are. I can't find a low mileage Z6 around here so I opted for the jdm D15B. I'm also looking to keep A/C and P/S. I have a few questions about the swap.
1. Which A/C bracket do I use? I've read a Z6 won't fit. I've read a VX A/C bracket will fit but I've also read different.
2. Will the coolant hoses be the same? The bad HG is putting pressure in the cooling system and causes the hoses to become weak ad I want to replace them all (again )
3. I'm going to put a timing belt/tensioner on the new engine. Would it be wise to change any seals on that side of the engine since it's off anyway? Maybe like a cam or crank seal?
4. Where would be a good place to buy this engine? I've looked at a couple of places, but I hear mixed reviews about each.
5. What all is needed to chip my ecu to a P08?
All help and any input is appreciated,
Corey

Essentially it just drops in. I'm using D15B7 A/C and PS brackets because I had a D15B7 to start with. Z6 should fit. Hoses are the same. As a warning you can't get the D15B vtec timing belt tensioner in north america. you can get the belt, its the same as the VX (103) teeth. I had a good tensioner so I only replaced the belt. You may be able to use a combination of a D16Z6 tensioner (slightly larger roller) with a D16Z6 belt (104) teeth. water pump is for a VX.

The only thing that concerns me is it's a 1.5l block compared to a 1.6l. It seemed to be a point of discussion, but I read more that a VX fits than that it doesn't. Maybe because they are both 1.5l VTEC? I'm not sure.

If it means anything at all I run a VX belt on mine, but with the original tensioner. They're excellent engines and are IMO a way better deal than rebuilding a D16Z6. In a nutshell they can best be described as a D16Z6 (EX/Si) head mated to a D15Z1 (VX) block with the crankshaft and pistons being unique to the D15B Vtec. Heres a good FAQ on the engine itself. http://www.d-series.org/forums...32597 and here is another link with OEM part numbers. http://www.d-series.org/forums...17840

Re: D16Z6 to D15B (94EG8)
Thanks you for the info, but I've already rummaged through d-series, myself. I've got the T-belt part down but I was asking more along the lines of the A/C bracket, sorry I wasn't clear in my last post. I've also read it was basically a VX block so that's why the VX bracket makes sense to me.
Thanks for the help

I don't know for sure about the VX bracket, it should work fine though. I can tell you a D15B7/D15B8 bracket definately works as thats what I used on mine, should also be a lot easier to find than a VX bracket. I suspect the D16Z6 will work fine as well.
Edit. I hadn't really thought of this earlier, but most of the time when you buy a D15B Vtec. or any JDM engine for that matter it comes with the A/C and P/S brackets already on it, you also generally get the P/S pump and A/C compressor too.
