D16z6 comp cam into a Jdm D15b
Ok simple question. Will it work? i know d series are interchangable and all. But i called Comp Cams and the guy said that a z6 cam would not work properly in a y8, and did not know about a jdm d15b. If anyone knows please tell me. It is pending sale on soley on this.

Should woek fine considering the d15b cam drops into the z6 no problem. I've seen the two heads side by side (D15B and Z6) and they appear to be identical in all respects.

Yea thats what i was think. But the Comp cams guy said that they will drop in fine but the pin at the end may not line up. But this is useing a y8. But i figured since the d15b and the z6 are from tyhe same time there shouldnt be a problem.

The head castings are identical, but the keyway on the D15B cam is a few degrees off from the Z6 because of the shorter deck height (207.45mm compared to 212mm). You would need an adjustable cam gear to index it properly.

Yea thats what the guy at comp said. but that was with the y8. Thanks for the info. i knew that there was something. Also with the keyway being off what would occur if no cam gear is used? timeing to far advanced?retarded? and the car will run correct?

If I remember correctly, when I had the ZEX (COMP) cam in my D15B it was advanced about a half tooth, or roughly 4.5 degrees. You can set it either advanced or retarded with the stock gear.

D15b cam is not the same, I will create an article and take some pictures to compare my old d15b vtec against d16z6 from ex. The D15b cam has advance duration and timing, and its vtec and exhaust lobes are more aggressive by .10 mm in lift. The D15b has thicker lobes while the d16z6 has thinner lobes. Easy to tell, the cam gears are the same. In order to fix timing, you have to use jdm d15b vtec maps with upgraded ccs if you put in z6.
