Default D16z6 Bottom nonvtec head

I purchased a vehicle with what I thought had a 92-95 CX/DX motor. It turns out that the bottom is a D16z6 according to the stamp.
The head is unknown (seller could not adequately give me much info), but the IM is a CX's.

The valve cover has a 16 valve stamp on the top like all CX/DX. I'm not sure what kind of dizzy, but there is no VTEC solenoid.

I thought, from my experience on some B series motors back a few years ago that the dowel pins won't match up if the bottom/head's are franked with one part being a VTEC and one part a non-VTEC. So if what I'm saying is true, is this motor safe? The car runs well with a CEL (not sure on code(s)).

And, is it possible to put on a non-vtec valve cover on a D16z6?

I don't know much about cars these days so if anyone can shed some light into this that would be great.

a non vtec valve cover wont fit on a vtec head. although its possible to have a 1.5 non vtec head on a d16z6 block, I dont see why the hell anyone would do that

What kinds of issues are taken into account when putting a non-vtec head on the z6? I'm just wondering if it's an easy job, or if it might not be so safe.

More like a reverse mini-me which is why I am somewhat concerned.
Bump for a few more opinions from D-series Gurus.

LOL! me-mini. Welp, you need to fig out what code its throwing. Most likey, a vtec solenoid. If its a cx, chances are the tb is about the size just big enough to suck a quarter in it. Or they might have used the z6 intake on the non vtec head. But to answer your main question, You can change out just about any deseries heads out. Bsides the zc ****. But, I wldnt say its hurting it any but chances are, your Deff not gettin 9sec 1/4mile power out of it, and ure gas milleage is probly suffering due to the p28 ecu runs richer. But, Id probly just find a vtec head for it and call it a day. Run the codes just out of curiosity and If you can post a pic of the mani, should be pretty easily able to determine the trim package of the intake(cx,ex,mg,ford, edm, that kind of thing.)

Oh yea, the head dowel pins are nothing like that of the ls/vtec deal. To my knowledge all the obd1-2 cars have the same exact dowel pins. Only thing, which shuldnt be tht big of deal would be the small plug btween 2and3 that is for use on a non vtec block and head. Shouldnt be hurting nething tho.

I stated that the IM is a CX in my original post and it is indeed; the valvecover has a "16valves" on it - so I think the head's a DX, and the ECU is a p05 (CX). It runs very well, the gas milage is awesome. I was just wondering about those dowel pins but you clarified that very well sol_itr.

I was just afraid this set-up was problematic, for some reason I kept picturing a b18b head on a b18c.

Yea, putting a non vetec bseries head on a nonvtec would be preety dumb! lol they should be hit and ran by a grocery buggy at a high speed. But yea, Want A LITTLE more power, you could change tht Mani out for a z6 of y8 and get a lil more grunt for them hills and Cant go by the valve cover. I had 2 b7's that were the same year model, both from jdm cars, and had diff valve covers on them. I do believ e it had something to do w the month the car was manifactured in tho. If it isnt a vtec head, I dont reckon it matters what head it is tho. If it aint got a vtec solenoid, dont reckon it matters either But deff change the mani and should help it out. Glad i could help
