Head studs, rod bolts and boost and tune.

you could replace the block with a GSR bottom end then put a B16 head on top of that then just look for a B series tranny and bam your done :p hahah but seriously the only way to get some serious HP out of your d series is to do what "itsnotfast" said which is get some head studs bc the heads tend to lift with boost and then id get some forged pistons, rod bolts, a turbo kit and you should be set - the Z6 comes with a forged crankshaft from the factory already oh and your going to need a stronger clutch bc that stock D series clutch wont last with boost and dont forget to TUNE TUNE TUNE - biggest part of the build right there so dont skimp out on it!

GL bro

you could do a full NA build which unless you get extremely serious about it i doubt youd even hit 180hp at the crank.

just a thought, you could cut 3ft out of the car behind the seats, weld the back half back on........that should lighten it up a couple hundred pounds. that would definitely help. or maybe bolt it onto a go-kart

seriously though to make a Z6 quick on any kind of sane budget........gotta go turbo.

IDK what you are used to but but a EG Si is hella fun car. not fast, but quick. very agile. good gearing(not great gearing, but good). light(could be lighter without things like A/C), yeah lots of fun. honestly i think a mild N/A build(I/H/E, Cam, light PnP, valve job, balanced bottom end, something like hondata for tuning, a GOOD tune......turn it 7500) combined with good suspension and brake upgrades will give you one VERY balanced and fun car. still not FAST, but those engine upgrades would definitely liven up the engine.......get you up to 140-150hp at the crank. you could go with higher compression pistons like 10.5:1 or 11:1 and get a lil more out of it. that build should probably easily contend with B16 swaps. and all the parts and work wouldnt cost all THAT much either. probly about the same as a good turbo kit(not an ebay kit).........not as much potential HP, but also doesnt require the maintenance a turbo needs.

the problem you run into there is after those(relatively cheap and easy) upgrades.......to continue with a N/A build its gonna get expensive on a SOHC and the gains are gonna be less per dollar than with say a B16 or B18.

bottom line is if you want a FAST car, its gonna be cheaper/easier to turbo the Z6 or do a swap. if you just want to liven it up some then the Z6 will work just fine.

It's a waste. You might as well blow your money and attempt to "build" a N/A dseries motor.

Visit the HT marketplace, buy secondhand parts (log-style manifolds and T25 turbos are plentiful), and I'm sure you'll have a quick setup for less than $1500 (+ tune, possibly [if it's more]).

I suppose the best you can do if you don't wanna venture into the forced induction world quite yet would be to do that (build your suspension), strip some pounds off your car (semi-strip your interior, lose spare tire, lighter battery, etc), and free up the little horsepower you'll get with your basic I/H/E + tune.

Good luck!

ive heard of them supercharged but more of the y8s. i actually plan on supercharging my d16y8, and they can make good power if you tune it right

yeah superchargers are more reliable and have instant power, where-as most turbos need to spool up unless they have a ball bearing

size of the turbo and the tuning of your wastegate and blow-off valve are really what decide lag. but mostly size of turbo.

anyone ever heard of someone trying a variable nozzle or variable vane turbo on a honda? that would be the way to go if you can tune it right. almost no lag at all, but you still have the advantage of a largish turbo for big power numbers. and with that setup youd be able to put your power EXACTLY where you want it
