Default d16z16 trans issue

i have recently had a new issue develop and was wondering what you guys might know what is the cause.

i step on the clutch, and go to put it in gear, i here a noise and it fights back, it will go in but it is rough. if i loosen up and not push the clutch all the way in, it dosen't make the noise, and it shifts alot easier. to explain a little bit better, i put the clutch to the floor and lift it about 1/2 inch to shift nicely. is there a stop that i may have lost or is there an adjustment that i can make?
