D16Y8 - What can be done...
So I decided to keep the D16Y8 motor in my daily driven 2000 CDN Civic Si.
Nevertheless, I'm looking for some mods that might be able to get some more pep out of the motor. Other than I/H/E, what bolts ons can be put onto the motor to get some more juice out of it.
I was thinking cams and pulleys and some mild headwork. Other than than forced induction, are there any modifications that can be done to the motor, that could potentially get some more power from it. And what numbers am I looking at (HP/TQ wise) with each modification.
Any help is appreciated.
Also - I'm going to swap the stock transmission, and replace it with a D-series LSD 5-speed transmission.

Re: (jdm_madman)
boost is what can be done.. it can be very reliable if done right .. tuning is the key .. if turbos scare you away from boost, how about a jrsc (jackson racing supercharger)
superchargers being more reliable but lose upgrades.. when turbos can always get bigger and supply more psi .. i know you said power without FI but only a mild built n/a d16 you would prolly only get 120-130whp .. which for some ppl might be enough ..
otherwise Do what you want

Don't want to go with forced induction on this car. It's to be daily driven for the time being - and will likely be up for sale come end of next summer.

n/a d-series seems like a waste of time to me
u could spend ALOT of money and just be as fast a b-series
d-series boost is a awesome way to make very good power for a decent price. They make very good torque #s
maybe u should try n20

Re: (EK k kay)
Greddy kit or JRSC. easy bolt on stuff, yields pretty trouble-free performance improvement and if you want to sell the y8, it's super easy to pawn the greddy kit or jrsc on a site like http://www.d-series.org or even h-t.
i've built a nice performing NA sohc vtec for about the price of a full dohc vtec swap...but i don't plan on selling my motor so our motives are different.

how does you 2000 civic si have a d series motor/?? it has the B16!
if it does have a d series (which is highly unlikely) than
dont turbo just do some head work and pulleys cams are tough but the pulleys and head work can be done relatively quickly but if you send out head work itll cost you BIG time upgrade the head to an ex head but if you do that you need a new computer and distibuter

^^ he lives in canada, canadian SiR=american si, candadia Si=american Ex
if you go high compression on a d series with some headwork, aggressive cam and good tuning, i've seen ppl with 160 hp and 130lbtq, but since your selling don't do anything to it

yeah, i'd say just throw a NX kit on it, run some colder plugs and call it a day.

but thats the thing, a juice kit will make it alot more fun and can be removed w/o any money wasted, and can be unloaded instantly to anyone, or used again on anything...

Yeah I would go with nitrous, and you might as well put an ebay intake on there to get the "mad vtak sound."

He could get a used nitrous kit and take it off when he sells it and will loose little to no money. Just pray you don't blow that thing up by getting happy with the nitrous.

Re: (.::miLan)
B18B, might as well keep the D16Y8 and boost it with the money you save. Or at least get a head package on it. Have fun with the B18B
