D16Y8 Swap (many hours spent reading the Archives)
So I'm thinking now of going with a Y8 setup, financially suitable and the power is there to be tapped, esp. with help from homemadeturbo.com. Question though:
In one of the archives I came across this
"It's that darned Y8 head. I guess in order to achieve ULEV status, they "cocked" a port over one of the intake valves to induce extra swirl in the combustion chamber (for a cleaner burn). People have gained a significant amount just by fixing that one port."
What the hell is he talking about?
Any comments on my swap decision welcome as i am not final on it and would like some feedback!
Thx in advance

Re: D16Y8 Swap (QuikJaysun)
Turbo'D D-Series are nice.......
make sure you've got it tuned correctly with your homemade turbo
turbo is not for everyone, be prepared to "maintain" your engine

I have never heard of this, and I have come across a lot of information on D-series engines. If it is a major concern, swap it out for a D16Z6 head!

Re: D16Y8 Swap (civic-4-ges)
It's all about the head design, apparently.... y8 has squared off quench pads, z6 has round quench pads, and the intake ports are designed differently. You can see the difference here:

Clearly you haven't searched THAT much--I posted a topic about this two days ago because I was looking for the above link.
Anyway, good luck to you--I too am a sohc believer.
