D16Y8 Oil Leak, I seached Cam Seal, Head Gasket?
I was checking the oil today which was full as it usually is, but I looked down and there was oil in the area of Engine Code. Ive searched through a ton of threads and the pictures that still worked most people said Cam Seal? Head gasket came into play as well but I hope not lol. This motor has a 118,000 miles and was well kept by the previous owner. Coolant is full and green like new. No white smoke at all. Does not overheat. Oil is the usual darker brown. The red shows where the oil is sitting. There is oil on the side of the block, under the dizzy. Looks like its been doing this for awhile, but the car runs good so I dont know. The oil is as much on the back side of the block as in the front. Do I have a cam seal besides the dizzy o-ring? Anyone have an idea?

It may be the distributor oil seal. I've had one leak. If you take off the dizzy it is around the shaft that goes into the camshaft.

Good news so far. There is oil under the Dizzy but not as much as the front of the picture. Its a real slow leak to, never had a drop of oil on the ground. Thanks guys I really appreciate it.

Had same problem a few months back, this was the culprit.
Pull the dis. cap, I had a puddle of oil in mine.

did it keep going low on oil or no? Ive changed my oil about 1000miles ago and still the same place as it was.

My motor has 243,000 miles on it, it leaks everywhere. The only reason I even bothered with this leak was the fact that the oil that puddled up inside the diz, cuased it to fail.
A leak from the diz will not make a noticable difference in oil level, but it could eventually take out the electronics inside if you dont take care of it.

Spray this section down with brake part cleaner until its clean. Drive a few hundred miles or less and then go back and check it.

I have a better idea. Do this and then go and buy a bottle of engine oil dye. Add it to your oil and drive a couple hundred miles. Then check again with a fluorescent light.

Well I replaced the dizzy oring, but still no luck. Still comes back. What else? Could the VTEC solenoid cause oil to come to the front of the engine like that? Is there a cam seal on the dizzy side the of the engine? I hope its not a leaky headgasket. The coolant level is never low, always nice and green. Anyone got anything?

Re: D16Y8 Oil Leak, I seached Cam Seal, Head Gasket? (turner7205)
I should report that, it leaks as much on the back of the block as the front. I have narrowed it down to: VTEC Solenoid, even though its on the back of the block, Valve Cover even though there is no oil on the VC only below the head/block. Could be cam seal if I had one. Anyone know? Also could be the headgasket, but I have not lost any antifreeze, or do I notice any in the leak. As mentioned the dizzy o-ring was replaced. I doubt there is oil in the dizzy, since it hasnt burned out in a few thousand miles. I will prly just end up replacing the VTEC solenoid for now since its pretty straight forward. Im lost what to do from there though.

There is a cam seal, but it's on the other side of the engine right behind the cam gear.
Did you replace the distributor o-ring? What about the VTEC solenoid gasket? Both of those gaskets are super cheap.
I had a leak in the same place but mine was quite a bit worse. There was a puddle of oil after leaving my car sit over night. The top of my tranny and the area under my distributor were covered in oil. So I replaced my o-ring and VTEC solenoid gaskets, then torqued everything down to spec and it's been fine since.
Your oil leak looks so minor though, I probably wouldn't even worry about it. lol.

Re: (EJ1 wilcox)
I have replaced that Distributor O-Ring, I am going to replace the VTEC Solenoid but I am hesitant because of the fact its on the backside of the head, but the oil is in the front of the block as well as in the rear. Think it matters or no? Possible the headgasket is leaky, even though I have not seen a lose in antifreeze in 3-4 months? In the pic below the black box is where some peoples VTEC solenoid is but on mine its where the red is on the back. Could it still leake from there? The blue scribbles show where the oil is. On the front of the block, under the distrubutor, on the backside of the block. Its actually leaking more on the block as its leaking to the ground here and there. So maybe it is the solenoid gasket. (Note: Picture was taking right after cleaning, so yeah no oil there then, but after 3k miles its all over again)
