I just replaced the oil pan gasket. I have a very slow leak. I'm assuming it's oil and not mtf. I thoroughly cleaned everything and now there is a very slow leak on the bracket that connects the transmission and the oil pan. It's the bracket that is towards the back and is held in by three bolts. I pulled off the flywheel plate and didn't see any oil underneath. I don't see any oil underneath the distributor on the block or tranny. Any suggestions?

Did you apply some sealant to the curved surfaces of the oil pan?

Have you check for oil leaks coming from the top of the engine (distributor, VTEC solenoid, valve cover)?

yes i did apply hondabond to edges per the helms. The oil pan is not leaking. I am trying to find the source of the drip by the rear bracket. I will check the vtec solenoid and valve cover next. I checked the distributor just by looking beneath it and didn't see any evidence of leaking. Do i need to do anything else to check if the distributor is leaking? If the rear main was bad would i see oil by the flywheel with the cover off? Thanks for the help Ron.

Remove the flywheel cover and then put your hand behind the flywheel. If there's no wet oil there, the rear seal is not likely leaking.

Though you recently replaced the oil pan gasket, don't rule it out. Did you torque the nut/bolts to spec in multiple cycles in the proper sequence?

Do you see any oil on top of the transmission below the distributor? If you rub your hand along the lower side of the distributor, is there any wet oil?

Any wet oil around the VTEC solenoid or along the edges of the valve cover gasket?

Might the oil actually be transmission fluid coming from the differential where the axle inserts?
