Re: (bambbrose)
think about it logically.......if you can put a y8 intake mani on a y7 motor then that means you would be able to put a y7 intake mani on a y8...........so because they're interchangable the gaskets would be as well......
you can also check on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and look up the referance/part numbers and see if they match up

well finished the swap and everything
the gaskets are actually different..however you can use whichever one you want.. I used my y7 gasket and it worked like a charm.
you can't use a y8 TB gasket with a y7 TB though.. I found that out the hard way..
everything works good now though.. and butt dyno is pleased..
thanks for your help guys

yes yes. any more you'd like to share bam? this is something i'm gonna be doing this summer.
is it just the im that i would need, or do i also need the y8 tb?
want to make up a little walk through on it?
thanks!
Luke
p.s.---- and damn, you always seem to be like 2 weeks ahead of me on some of these projects.. this one, and over on HAN i was asking you about fitting in a gsr shifter w/ es bushings. i've been lazy and haven't done that mod yet.. but the shifter and bushings are waitin in my room

well the entire process was pretty easy. I used a 96-98 manual Y8 intake manifold. I plugged the IAC holes with silicone and also plugged the small cruise control port on the back. The only things I needed were: the intake manifold. the throttle cable bracket, the throttle connect plate from a Y8 throttle body, 2 feet of vaccum hose, 1 foot of small coolant hose, and I had to extend three wires so you need the stuff to do that (wire, etc.)
I took a bunch of pictures and plan on doing an extremely detailed write up so I will let you know when I have that finished and up on my website

Re: (lkailburn)
i recently did the swap and i ran into some problems. (the IM is from a 97 5-spd) the main problem is that as soon as i start my car it just revs up.....and doesnt stop, i always have to turn it off before it gets to high. i've tried everything i can possibly think of but it still does this. i'm almost positive that i hooked everything up right....but somethins still wrong. that write up would help a bunch, and any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: (justmyluck)
I just did the swap last weekend, and it was a complete success.
I used a 1999 Y8 manifold, so I had to plug up the air injection holes, and air injection nipple. I used a Y8 intake manifold gasket, and a Y7 throttle body gasket, since I was still using the Y7 throttle body, due to the sensor.
It took about 3 hours to install, and it started right up on the 1st crank. It idled at about 2k until it was warmed up then it went to 800-900rpm when it fully warmed. I did not have any idle fluctuation. However, one thing that scared me was that sometimes the idle would stay at 1500 - 2000rpm. This worried me, but then I realized it was due to the throttle cable sticking, due to the tight bends. I would stop the high idle by putting my foot under the gas pedal and lifting it up.
Driving impression was awesome. The car felt a lot faster than it did before, and the growl from the intake sounded a lot meaner and deeper with the manifold on. The car picks up a lot better on the freeway, and it makes the car more fun to drive. I tested it out at the track the other day at streets of willow, and it definitely felt stronger and torqueir.
Overall, the install wasn't that bad, and it was worth the $20 i paid for it!
If you have any questions on the install, let me know.

k i'm an idiot for forgeting to plug the air injection nipple and holes, but even after i did that its still revin up like it has been. i dont have the throttle plate yet, when i get that on and hooked up to the throttle cable do you think that would make a solve the problem? i'm just all out of ideas. i feel like such a newb.

did you block the cruise control nipple?
did you use a y7 throttle body?
you should change that throttle rotor to the y8 rotor, i don't know if that is causing problems.

the cruise control nipple is the small valve thing near the bottom of the IM on the right side(if your facing the IM)? i blocked that off. yeah i'm usin the y7 TB and tomorrow i'm gonna try gettin the y8 throttle cable rotor. when i get it on i'll see if it fixed it and let you know wither way.

look at the last pic in the fourth post, right where the manifold sits against the block, all those little holes on the manifold need to plugged or you will have an extremely high idle.... as soon as you turn the key it will jump right to redline

did you plug up the two nipples on the back that use to go to the IAC valve? for mine I just used a piece of vacuum hose and connected them to each other..

Re: (Airbag Club)
ok i got the y8 throttle plate.....it actually came off an 89 integra, it fits the same as the y8 though.....but the car is still revin like it has been. i checked out those pics off the links that you guys gave and i'm gonna go make sure i have all the right lines in the right places. i know theres two nipples on the block, one is an air line that goes to the IM and the other is a coolant linethat goes to the TB ....but which nipple is which??
