D16y8 Intake Manifold Question
I yanked out a 98 d16y8 and I believe I'm throwing in a 97 d16y8 in place. There is what appears to be a vacucum port on the IM of the new engine.
Is this just a regular vacuum port or wtf is it? I've looked through my helms and it doesn't show this port on the IM. Is there a specific location for it to go?

its an air injection port system. its mixes more air in at the fuel injectors during a cold start. there are also 4 holes, one in each fuel injector port that connect to that opening. its an IM from a 99 or 2000 ex. I would avoid using it and get a 96-98 one. I used the one in the picture and it ran poorly until i sealed off the top port and each fuel injector hole.
the fuel injectors that come with that IM have a ported shroud around the ends to allow for the air to mix in also.
What ended up happening, because I wasn't using the air injection system, is that the vaccum, air, whatever, was able to freely move between injectors and was causing misfires and an erratic idle.
definatley try to get the 96-98 one

Re: D16y8 Intake Manifold Question (PrecisionH23a)
Is that on the flange? If so, it's for the 99-00 air injection. There are also tiny holes above each runner on the flange for this air injection. You need to have all 4 holes and the nipple welded shut or you will have a vacuum leak and stuff can spew out of the holes above the injectors.
Ah damn I took too long to type.
I am using that same intake manifold on my y7/y8 mini me with the holes shut and have had absolutely no problems for two years.

So how does it run on the 99-00 without leaking?
Also, where are the holes that need to be welded/plugged located on the IM? On the bottom?

Well it looks like I'll be throwing the 98 IM on. It sure would have been nice if the guy had known it was a different year engine.

The holes are on the inside of the flange above the fuel injector ports.
Part 24 is the 6th gen equivalent of the 5th gen's FITV. It screws into the thermostat housing so that as coolant warms up, it shuts down the connection between those two vacuum ports (E-1-1/B-1-1).

I could have sworn you had something entirely different typed up a second ago...
But I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at: Why even bother to try and hook it up like the 99-00 model? Just weld it/JB Weld it shut (the input tube or the 4 small holes) and it'll function fine. If you want it hooked up like the 99-00 model, you'll need the appropriate hardware (that thermostat housing and air injection valve) to make it work as intended.

Yea... I edited my post. So JB weld looks like it's going to save the day. I still don't see the tiny holes... i'll worry about that when I get back from Charlotte.

Re: (kyorishin)
Ok.
I replaced the manifold with the 98 manifold and now it has a surging idle from 1-2000rpms when in park. However, when in reverse or drive it doesn't do it. IACV ftw on the a/t.
