I read an article in Super Street about cheap horsepower for Honda's. They say you can bolt a D16y8 intake manifold to other D series heads and that you can bolt any B series throttle body on a port matched D series and the combo should be good for about 12 hp.
Well, I have a B series throttle body and picked up a D16y8 intake manifold, pretty cheap.
If anyone has done this or a similar swap, I have some questions and could really use some info.

- My car is a '93 with, an automatic transmission, and NO cruise control (it was cheap).
- The throttle body is from a '95 B18b, with an automatic transmission and cruise control.
- The D16y8 intake manifold is from a '99, with a manual transmission and cruise control.

Do I use a throttle body gasket for an automatic, or manual?

Will I have any IACV problems?

Am I supposed yo use the D series throttle cable rotor?

Is there anything on either part that i have to change, since I don't have cruise control?

Any help with this, or any other things I should know about this swap, would be greatly appreciated.

well B and D throttle bodies have the same bolt pattern and except gsr they can use the same throttle cable.

but 12 horsepower is bogus lol...

port match the opening of the plenum to the throttle body and it should give you a little bit more power but not 12 horsepower.

Yeah, 12 hp seems like a lot, but I can dream.
I'm gathering parts, now, for my Ls/Vtec and 5spd swap.
I just want a lil more hp out of the motor I have, until then.

The manual vs automatic doesn't matter.

The B series TB will fit right onto the manifold, but unless you port it you will gain nothing.

You can use the throttle cable pulley off the non cruise TB and put it on the B series.

The gasket is the same. If you are getting a new one it won't matter. Either will work.

I understand that I will have to port match the IM to match the TB.
The Bseries TB gaskets, for an auto and a manual ARE VERY DIFFERENT, though.
But, I've found a trade, for an auto IM, so all will be ok.....I HOPE. lol

Similar question. I have a d16y5 motor (vtec-e) and was wondering if a GSR TB would fit perfect?
So far this vtec e has given me problems.
First the vtec was nothing. When vtec engages you hear the pitch change but dont feel it. So i swap ecu's. (p2p to a p72) still no difference. Then i swap the injectors and man you can now feel vtec kick in. I wanted to slap on a GSR TB, but wanted to know first if would make a difference and if it would fit?

Wow. I'm very surprised. I did a little research and you are correct. I would have thought that auto/manual would have no effect on the gaskets.

Now I'm interested to know, the manifold itself is whats different? I wonder why that is. So did you compare the gaskets to the throttle bodies as well? Is the auto D gasket the same as the auto B throttle body?

The auto and manual Y8 manifolds are different. The Auto one has no hole on the back for the IACV while the manual one does. Becuase the auto Y8 has a 3Wire IACV on the Throttle Body just like the Y7's do, while the manual one has the 2 Wire IACV found on most B series motors. And there is no point in putting a B series TB on a D series manifold unless you port the plenum.

I know that but I'm wondering why they would make them different. Doesn't really make sense to me at least.

so if u want to do the im swap u need an auto im if ur auto, and manual im if ur manual? cause i have a auto daily and i am swapping my project soon and was gonna use the same im even thought that car is an manual...
