D16Y8 ignition timing...
I'm confused by the search I did... it's either 16* or 12* for the Y8, somebody enlighten me. I know one setting is for the Y8 specifically, and the other setting is for all the other ones.
My Helms says 12* for my Y8, but according to my search, that's what everyone else is supposed to set it to... now I thought the Y8 was different... HELP!

Re: D16Y8 ignition timing... (BauleyCivic)
So when I throw the conversion harness in with the P28 chipped with the Hondata S200b, I won't be aiming for 12* anymore, I'll want 16*, right? Or will I keep it at 12*...

That's actually a really good question...I honestly don't know.
I'd have to say 16, because the P28's stock maps are designed for 16 degrees of base timing. But I wouldn't trust my input since I haven't done it before.

EDIT: fixed typo.

Re: D16Y8 ignition timing... (BauleyCivic)
I'm going to try searching the FI forum archives some more to see if I can get the answer. I'm also going to my tuner tomorrow, so I'll see if they know. I'll keep this thread posted for future searches.

Stock is a good point to start...so is stock + 2*, which is the upper limit....so is stock - 2*, which is the lower limit for a stock engine. Your engine isn't stock though.
This base timing number is just a starting point from which the timing values of the ignition maps are added to. So if you started with a base timing of 16* and retarded the dizzy 1*, you would be retarding the whole map by 1*. Lets say at idle, it liked 16* - well, if its set statically at 16*, you're good to go. If you set it for 12*, then 4* of advance will be added and now you're back to 16*. See what I'm getting at?
So just stick with the stock range of #'s for the time being as a starting point.
