D16Y8 idle dip a few times at cold start.
Sorry if I double post the issue. The other topic was about mechanical and ignition timing and it's been solved. I have a different problem I can't figure out.
Here's the problem. Whenever I start my car at outside temperature, cold start, it would startup fine, idle fine but after 30 seconds or so of the startup, the idle would dip once or twice. If I was to start driving in the morning as soon as it starts, the engine bogs down after 30 seconds or 1 minute or so. While this happen, if I rev the engine, it would start running smoothly. After this happen, the idle would be just fine the whole day.
I have checked my IACV, FITV, fuel injectors, fuel filter, spark plugs (new), wires, distributor (tested within spec). They are all working as it should. I thought it was the problem with FITV, so I tried cleaning and adjusting it. It didn't work. So, I've bypassed the FITV since Y8 OEM setup didn't need one, I bypass coolant line from engine to IACV and made a gasket that fits for FITV under TB. That doesn't solve the problem either.
Here's the specs of my car.
This is 95 DX trim.
-D16Y8 engine
- manual transmission (Replaced fuel and temperature gauge from auto.)
- auto Y8 mani modded to work with manual. (drilled 3 IACV holes)
- GSR TB (FITV bypassed considering Y8 OEM setup doesn't require FITV. Coolant line from engine directly to IACV. FITV is closed with custom gasket)
- OBD1 stock ECU
- OBD2 distributor
- AEM cold air intake
- IAT drilled on intake. Not on mani.
You can skip to 0:25 minute of the video to see the problem.

Re: D16Y8 idle dip a few times at cold start.
Cleaned, tested. Working within spec. It's new too since I just modded the mani and it was not in use before. I'm posting here because I know it's not IACV, FITV, injectors, plugs, distributors. I can't figure out anymore of why an engine would do that because my knowledge of engine stops at air, fuel, and spark. I need some detail information of what I must have missed. Coolant is bled and burp as well.
Also, bad IACV would not keep an engine on such stable idle even after I turned the A/C on in mid way of the video.
Also also, this is not a simple clean the IACV or FITV or injector or some basic things anymore. I've done all of that. I'm leaving the ECU unplugged tonight to reset completely. Gonna reattach tomorrow to see if it was making this somehow.
Also also also, after telling a lot of people to do these basic steps, I'm pretty sure I didn't miss to do them myself either.
